Leonard died of a heart attack (coronary thrombosis) after refereeing the first six bouts of the April 18, 1947 card at the St. Nicholas Arena, New York.

He was refereeing the bout between Mario Ramon and Bobby Williams. The bout was immediately halted by the commission. (Death has also been attributed to a hemorrhage of the brain.)

    YES! Very Good

I just got back from Ring Announcing the New Jersey Golden Gloves.

Now we still have these 2 to answer:

Who fought in the 1st bout that the ring announcer announced the scores?

When was the 1st time both the mandatory 8 count rule and 3 knockdowns in 1 round terminating the bout was used in a Championship match? Who were the boxers?

No to both. The announcer question happened in the mid-1940's and the 8 count 1st happened in the early 1960's.
