Holding 2 Ring belts at the same time, going 9-0 against current, former, or future titlists, being the first to unify the division, and holding a top 3 or higher ring rating for over a decade is a great career by any reasonable standard. It's not Whitaker great, but 99.999 % of guys who've ever laced them up can't say they were Whitaker great.

    ROFL...Sweat PEA....Sweet fraud.

His only real High class win was vs a 43 yr Old Hopkins...forget Kessler who is headed for the Hall of shame not Fame.

Sweat pea tested himself against GREAT FIGHTERS in their prime and retained his slickness.

Can you imagine Calzaghe ever fighting a P4Per in his prime??

Ivan Calderon, Zab Judah, Chris Byrd, Winky Wright, Sergei Dzinzirik, Chad Dawson, Nazeem Hamad ect ect

Calzaghe isn't really a "slick" fighter.

I don't understand why people call him slick either. He's a volume fighter. He tries to throw more punches (or slaps) than you so he can outpoint you and win the round. He has decent defense I suppose, but far from slick.

Sweet Pea will stand right in front of you and let you throw whatever you want... and you'll still miss every punch.

Just look at some of the punches that have floored Calzage throughout his career.. especially in his last two fights where RJJ and Hopkins floored him with less-than-emphatic punches.. people want to call THAT guy slick? What a joke.

Watch Whitaker, Hopkins, James Toney, Cory Spinks etc. Those guys are slick. Perhaps Calzaghe is as well, but I wouldn't call him a modern day version of Whitaker, hell no.

It really is astonishing just how many pro-Calzaghe comments regarding his career never explicitly mention even one single opponent that he beat...

see but jones fought way better opponents during his career than calzaghe. By the time jones was fighting those bums later in his career he already fought the likes of -Bernard Hopkins-James Toney-Vinny Pazienza-Thomas Tate-Eric Lucas-Mike McCallum-Virgil Hill-Montell Griffin etc see my point :good

I can't believe this thread is still going on. I kinda made a point to ignore it. Not an anit-JoeC thing, really, I'm steering away from the Ottke/Calzaghe thread as well as it is pure nonsense.

Maybe I'm missing the def'n of "slick", but "outpunch the other guy" isn't slick, is it? He has good ring intelligence, but that's smarts, not slickness. It was said well above: Hopkins, Toney, Corey Spinks, Byrd.

Not really mcuh alike at all...Joe is a wide swinging pressure fighter with fast hands...Pea was a defence first guy that didnt get hit, and didnt throw wide shots...The only thing they have in common is thier lack of knockout power.
