Bugner had been retired for two years when he fought Shavers ,and was stopped on a cut.
Williams was not rated,he lost to every rated man he fought including Richard Dunn.

Norton at 36 was just in the top 10 but like Ellis was on the slide,to say former contenders would be more accurate. I think.

very true, its funny thing I hear about Williams being formidable...he lost to Dunn and Dunn was KO'd in 11 of his 12 losses but guys keep sayin that Tiger Williams...anyone with power KO's Dunn...In fact even Jimmy Young KO'd Dunn in 4

Thanks guys. The Mrs. to be is not fan of boxers unless they are on dancing with the stars, or some cooking show.

I would like to offer my best wishes as well. Family is wonderful and if you marry the right one, which I am sure you are, you will know what I am talking about.

I was a single parent of 4 small kids, ages 10, 8, 5 & 3, & a large husky dog for almost 8 years and they all lived with me. I then met and married my wonderful wife Joyce, who was also a single parent of 4 kids & a large husky do. So all 8 of them lived under the same roof, some people called them the Brady Bunch but they say Eight is Enough. People told us it wouldn't last BUT on March 12th, we made it for 20 wonderful years.

She goes to all the boxing shows with me and when I would ring announce some of the amateur boxing shows, she use to sell the hot dogs. She even bakes for the meeting of the New Jersey Boxing Hall of Fame each month and has done countless amount of picnics, where she would cook for over 100+ people. We are soul mates and I can only hope and pray that you and your bride will have the same.

I almost forgot, I pick Shavers by a early KO.

I had mentioned Norton. What's so great about Willliams? I can't even remember him. Bugner sucked, and was old too. I don' t think he gave Holes a scare. Reason they were matched twice was cause Don King had them both, and even if in second bout Shavers had one it would have given King more money in rematch, since he also promoted both. Shavers did give an older Ali a close call, he was decent fighter, but very overated. Losses to Ron Stander and Bob Stallings don't help. Layne was considered next champ, and had big undefeated streak, and wins over 4 top contenders going into Marciano fight, which he was favorite in.
Shavers had weak chin, and tired easy. If he did not get you out in 5-6 rounds, he usually ran out of gas.

    Thanks Hhascup.

My honey looks great, is emotionally generous, an excellent cook, a good dancer, and good listener. It took me a while to find the right one. Too many women in my neck of the woods are psychotic or non-compromising. My best advice to all bachelors out there is to wait, and do not BS yourself. In nearly 2 years, we have not had a fight to date. Everyone says we are a good match. No kids yet.

Gee, I thought you were talking about my wife.

I did, and she looks GREAT and she is 62, BUT don't tell her that I told you. I don't know how to put up pictures, BUT here's one that is on facebook.

It was more a case of Cosell getting hysterical than Holmes being hurt. Cosell made fights more extiing for some. I would turn sound down when he announced fights.

He was apparently hurt enough to go down like a sack of rocks, stay down for quite a while and not be able to stand up straight for several seconds after he did get back up. He was clearly hurt. Badly hurt.
