    a lot of talk about rjj as of late on this forum...yeah he is shot and got his ass handed to him by joe and tarver and johnson...yeah i heard his excuse about the cut being the reason he lost to joe (which is bull****) but keep this in mind

    in 1986 he won the golden gloves at 139
    in 1987 he won the golden gloves at 156
    in 2003 he fought john ruiz who came in at 226

    and managed to win a few titles here and there in between

    not too many people in boxing history can say they had the sack to try something like that or had the ability to do something like that. He is an atg, hof, and in his prime he was one of the best to come around in a long time. Yes he is done and washed up, should hang'em and he is but a shadow of what he once was...but what he once was was one of the best

    Many here will agree with your opinion - Myself included. However, be ready for many haters that will post idiotic reasons for why Roy wasn't as good as you think.

    Roy Jones is one of, if not the, best boxer I've seen in my lifetime.

    The reason people slate him, imo, is because there was no-on anywhere near as good as him that he beat...but is that his fault?

    And also the fact he aged overnight, but this is boxing...

    His career reminds me of that of Naseem Hamed in a way, in that he seemed invincible in his prime and when he lost everyone was quick to knock him and showed a complete lack of appreciation for what came before. Although of course Roy Jones, despite Naz's immense natural ability, was a better fighter and accomplished a lot more...

    He should quit asap though, it is sad to see him at less than his best...He'll be appreciated with time

    RJJ is unquestionally one of the greatest fighters ever. He should have quit when he was finished at 33 and nobody could have denied it. But he wanted to continue even as his abilities faltered badly. But what a fighter in his day. I just watched Jones-Toney recently and am still amazed at how easily he boxed Toney's ears off.

    i know its terrible, i think. he was completely untouchable there for a while. it was really something to see when he fought in his prime. he was so much better than anyone that it was hard to tell how good his competition was b/c everyone he fought looked average at best against him.

    I think for his fan like myself its tough to see a former superman in the ring look like a mortal ..Im sure Leonard's fans felt the same way as did Ali's fan .The man has nothing to be ahamed of have the boxer today grew up watching Roy.I hope he looks good against Sheike then calls it a day ..

    thats what really got me upset when joe really took it to him...i expected him to lose...but i don't want young kids or people who are just starting to keep up with boxing to have watched that fight and say.."thats rjj i thought he was one of the best??"

    Sounds like most of the Jones haters and today's ..They can only keep up with what went on in the last 5 yrs ..But history will remember Jones for being one of boxing's most skilled fighters in the last 50 yrs ..He was the closet thing to Jordan in boxing gloves when he ruled ..If people are going to judge him on his losses then every atg should suffer the same type of scrutiny !

    Roy was great, one of the greatest ever.

    But he seriously deluded now, and shot to pieces, he should have retired years ago, yet he carries on. Eventually this will start to damage his legacy.

    hopefully when he does finally hang'em up...a lil time goes by and he turns out like mickey mantle or willie mays (i know its baseball but a good analogy) b/c they stayed waaaaaaaaaaaaay past their primes and looked really bad their last few years, yet today everyone only talks about their primes. hopefully that happens here w/ rjj

    Agreed I hate it when legend holds on too long ..The problem is Hopkins has got people thinking they can still compete on an elite level ..

    lol i know...which rarely ever happens...which is why bhop is going down as one of the best of his era. they are both freaks...i remember when rjj was playing semi pro basketball and we would go watch him and you could tell he was one special athlete
