If only. Calzaghe's third defence of his WBO title was against Robin Reid. The really weak part of his career came after the Mitchell fight. If only Pavlik was defending against someone of Reid's calibre.

    Source Please.

As of late Wednesday Team Pavlik and Top Rank had not even met concerning this fight. So you're saying they met, considered eveything, and signed in one day:patsch

    Source please.

Middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik's third title defense will come against former junior middleweight titleholder Sergio Mora this summer, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum told ESPN.com on Wednesday.

Arum and Mora promoter Jeff Wald of Tournament of Contenders reached an agreement Tuesday night under which the fighters would meet in late June or July at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J. Pavlik has fought three of his last five fights there, drawing large crowds of loyal fans who traveled from his native Youngstown, Ohio.

However, Arum said the deal is contingent on him working out the particulars with Pavlik and his managers, Cameron Dunkin and Mike Pavlik, the champion's father. Wald told ESPN.com he had already reached agreement with Mora.
Dunkin said although he hasn't reached financial terms with Arum, he didn't expect any issues.

"I told Bob to go forward with it and talk to [Wald] and I would talk to Kelly and Mike. We're fine, but Bob and I still need to have a discussion about it. It's not done yet but we're not talking about anyone else. Bob says this is what he wants to do, so this is what we're planning to do."
Arum said there are three possible dates for the bout, June 20, July 18 or July 25.

Arum said the reason the deal hasn't been finalized with Pavlik is only because he is traveling. He was in Boston on Wednesday on personal business and is headed to England for a vacation. He said he would sit down with the Pavliks and Dunkin when he returns.
"When I get back, Kelly and his father and Cameron and I will meet and I will present them with the deal," he said. "We'll work it out and then we can announce it."

This article was from March 12th. I wouldn't be surprised if Kelly officially signed by now.

Even if they haven't, it seems very likely that Mora will be Pavlik's next opponent.

Isn't there also UFC on July 18th? Specifically UFC 100?

If so then you have free boxing on HBO, UFC 100 (the most hyped show of the year complete with the big MMA names) and baseball in the midst of the summer push.

An unattractive date for an unattractive fight.

There has always been a double standard applied to KP and AA. Kelly fights Taylor twice, and fights BHop at 170. Arthur ducks Zuniga and fights Ayala, Marquez, Miranda, and Simon, but Kelly is the ducker; go figure.

Until it's signed, it's not made. This is Pavlik's last chance to not stab his defenders in the back.

I think the difference is is that in the court of public opinion, The person who pursues the fight the most WANTS it the most. The person who seems most hesitant to it is the person whose "DUCKING" as one would say.

Pavlik isn't ducking anybody but what can ya do? The court of public opinion rules sometimes.
