    That's when he turned down the contract with Showtime which would have included a step up to SMW to fight Calzaghe after a MW defence against Morrade Hakkar, so it's a fair assumption that Hopkins knew who he was...

    I think Calzaghe's first US expsoure was the dreadful fight with Starie. Showtime were there for Tyson or something like that.

    The fight against McIntyre was on the undercard of Tyson v Nielson. As I previously posted though Showtime had shown previous Calzaghe fights. Sheika was the first and they also showed the Woodhall and Veit fights that preceded McIntyre.

    Oh, actually correct that, because you are right that Calzaghe Starie was also on a Tyson bill (vs Francis). Showtime were broadcasting delayed coverage of that, not sure whether they did actually show Calzaghe or not. That would have been one fight before Sheika though.
