Tough fight....Lamotta was strong and tough on the inside Burley was a good boxer with punch.....I think Jake takes the win UD or closer
Lamotta isnt quite in the same class as Burley who'd be the matador to disect the raging bull. Lamotta lost to Homan Williams when he was in his prime who probably lost the close series against Burley, Lamotta would avenge this defeat when Williams was past prime but Williams also wasn't as versatile as Burley and didnt have the same power either. Stylistically Burley has the speed to outbox Jake, the countering ability to catch him on the way in, he's just a much better boxer and a warrior with it. Burley UD 10-5
I doubt Jake would ever duck anyone didn't seem in his nature. Anyway according to Lloyd Marshall all the members of the black murders row would have beaten Jake, either way I think Burley would win a close decision I could see them splitting a series in Charley's favour.
Jake beat Murderer's Row members Holman Williams and Bert Lytell, so he's a tad off. I think Jake at his best would've held his own with all of them.
all i have sen of burley is against billy smith i do think watching taht taht he would beat LaMotta but you cant make a true assumption on it so illl saty out of this
Holman was 34yo on the start of his career end losing streak and a 177fight veteran, he'd previously beat Lamotta, and Lytell was a green 21yo and would take him to an SD. So yes he beat 2 but the circumstances strongly favoured him
The split decision in favour of the white, aggressive fighter was also booed by sections of the crowd. Sounds like it could have gone either way.
I agree with most of this. I do favour Burley, however. Burley's big problem at MW was distance...his feet were super-quiick, but apparently he wasn't quite there at the highest level at that weight in terms of getting in and out. Here, LaMotta is bulling straight onto the Burley right hand, which is a total sickner anyway. Rolling onto it, Jake is going to get hurt. Having said that, he's not going to get discouraged, but with Burley landing his money punch all night the decision should be clear ish IMO.
It's really hard to get a true stylistic gauge from only one film of Burley...But here goes nothing. Burley's activity or lack of rather makes this interesting. But he looks like one hellacious puncher with the torque he gets into those punches. I think Burley would rock onto the backfoot, and time the oncoming LaMotta. If you wathc LaMotta closely though he is very adept at getting low and rolling with shots, and it looks like Burley fires more from 'over' then 'under'. If LaMotta gets inside, by using a double/triple jab, he can do some business...but Burley is very good at pivoting to the side and firing...and Burley never seems to be out of position to counterpunch. I'm thinking a very close decison in favor of Burley.
Idont know??? Never seen Burley. Notice hes taken on MYTHICAL type proportions lately. Bummy Davis (your very knowledgeable,DONT SEE YOUR PARTIALITY) I LIKE yOUR oPinion.
The other thing is that LaMotta won a booed split decision against a washed up Holman Williams. Burley, another defensive master, with real power, at his prime, probably would have done a whole lot better. Just a thought.
