Prime vs Prime-Buster Douglas vs. Shannon Briggs

Nothing? Maybe this is too much of a miss match or something? Hmm... I was just driving on the freeway for like 4 hours and my mind wandered into this match...

 

i think dougals would have too much and outpoint him fairly wide

 

Agreed. Both had fast hands in their prime. But Douglas had the way better jab imho, and would constantly pepper Briggs with it all night. Add that to those massive uppercuts that Douglas could throw, and Briggs is in for a rough night, regardless of his strengths.

Heavies are my specialty. However, as I have said in other recent threads, I am finding this a bit hindering to my overall knowledge of boxing. I don't really know much about the lighter weights I admit, but love watching them and should try to focus on them more.

 

I also feel that a prime Buster Douglas wins.

Even at his best, Briggs had issues.

Granted, I'm sure a lot of them are related to asthma, but they are what they are.

Prime Douglas (the Tyson beater, of course), would beat him soundly.

Hell, Jameel McCline outpointed Briggs in 2002.

Briggs has rarely gone the distance, and only 6 times in winning efforts. One such effort was a 6 rounder against Danny Wofford (15-30-2).

Most of Briggs' wins were early sparkouts in the early rounds, with only 5 KO's out of 42 coming after Round 3.

In summary, a very long winded way of saying Douglas by wide UD or possible mid-to-late KO.

 

Briggs would win. The only thing Buster ever did was beat Tyson. Briggs has lasted for years but never had the great win Buster did. Briggs would wear out Buster and Buster would quit like he did with Tony Tucker.

 

Douglas wins by a lopsided decision or a late TKO..

I think Either Briggs over powers Douglas early or Douglas easily out boxes Brigs maby stops him in the mid-late or late rounds.

 

Yup. That's about how I see it as well.

Douglas gassed himself at times. Basically the sole reason he lost against Tucker, just couldn't keep it together.

Brigg's also didn't have terrible stamina most of his career. It's not suprising that he does now that he's a roided up 270 pounds. He fought his first few career fights at 205 pounds I believe, and was string bean like when he was an amateur fighting the likes of Felix Savon.

And the fights that did go the distance with him were iron chinned, so there's no shame there. Marion Wilson, Jameel McCline, Foreman.

But I also think those fights show he could go 12 rounds, his entire career wasn't spent at ridiculously high weights.

 

My sentiment exactly. Briggs was a two round brawler, and then he fell apart or went into a shell. He should never be considered as any where near as skilled as Douglas was. Only chance would be a early knockout by Briggs, but doubtful. Douglas usually hung in there until the later rounds before he quit, so I think Briggs would quit first.
