It does kind of upset me though that "If Mercer has anything he beats Tim, if Tim wins Mercer just had nothing left" mindset. If Tim Sylvia wins this fight, it will be the biggest crossover from MMA to boxing win ever. Certainly much greater than any boxer has done in MMA.

That was simply my way of showing a complete lack of respect for Tim Sylvia's boxing "skills". Mercer already has a foot in the grave so Tim has a chance at least. This isn't Ray Mercer from 1997 that went toe to toe with Lennox Lewis for 10 rounds.

Mercer is 47 and can't be in the shape he used to be in. His reflexes slowed and his stamina is surely much less than in his heyday. He does keep his power, but I think Silva will be bombing away madly in the first round and may land a lucky shot.

    Should be interesting.

Mercer is old and Sylvia is an overrated oaf. Who Cares vs. Who gives a ****.

I've seen Sylvia fight and unless Mercer's completely shot he should win. Sylvia doesn't even know how to box really. He loops his punches and he doesn't really have any kind of defense to speak of, nor is he all that good at taking a punch.

Sylvia is so flat footed, and I have a hard time believing he will know how to cut off the ring properly to corner any opponent. His awkward style will work against him as I believe it will make him easy to expose.

I can't see him throwing the kind of crisp punches that is usually needed in a pro boxing match. Mercer is old, but I can't see Tim doing well.

nope, we already know ray has nothing left. just because the notion annoys you doesnt make it incorrect. for your info, mercer been on the slide for about a decade and a half now. im sorry your angry that your boy is put in a lose/lose situation, but its his fault, he took the fight, he should take the criticism that comes with boxing a 48 year old has been. sorry

He's not my boy. As far as I know Ray Mercer is still the favorite. Also, it would be the greatest win for an MMA fighter going into boxing, and surely greater than any pure boxers win's in MMA.

How is beating a 47 year old Ray Mercer a good win? Especially when this fight is taking place in a cage?

This fight has fix written all over it. Mercer has been taking these types of pay cheques for awhile.

Butterbean fought Larry Holmes when Holmes was like 52 years old. Holmes schooled him the entire 8 or 10 rounds.

Ray Mercer is no Larry Holmes, but how many cases has their been of high level MMA guys taking on boxers. Ray Mercer may be old and way way way out of his prime, but Sylvia has lost his last two fights too hasn't he? Sure, Sylvia is younger, but Ray was a top contender for the Heavyweight title at one point. Surely, in an MMA match, I would favor Randy Couture over even the primest HW champions even as old as he is now!

Ray Mercer has ONE HUGE advantage and that's that boxing is his art. Let's see if he can use his super boxing skills and beat the younger, fresher, but still past his best, regarded as chinny, and was always ragged on by the fans and never really thought of to be super great by anybody anyways MMA fighter.
