I think Vitali did very well. Gomez was a game fighter, and Vitali took care of business.

For those saying Vitali was slower: I don't think he was much slower than usual. A bit perhaps, but not much. I think most of it was Gomez being faster (but not fast enough), than other opponents Vitali has fought in a long time. It seemed to me that his (Vitali) speed increased as the rounds went on. And let's keep this in mind: I cannot count the vast number of people on this board saying how fast Gomez was, how Vitali wouldn't be able to catch him, how Gomez would outbox him, etc....

Now that Vitali has won, let's not try and change the story to how bad Vitali supposedly was, okay. That's called being a hater. :D

The bottom line is that Vitali won by 9th round TKO and won the rounds 9-0, or 8-1, (so much for being out boxed). That's normal for him and his last few fights (Peter, Sanders, Williams).

Vitali vs Haye: I see it very similar to this fight. Although I do think Vitali lands EASIER on Haye than he does on Gomez. I'm also not sure if Haye's chin is as good as Gomez's is. But I suspect this fight will never happen, I think Wlad will get and dispose of Haye first.

Just for comparison, here are some Gomez/Haye stats.

_____________Height ____________Reach _____________Most Recent Fighting Weight
    Gomez ________6′ 3½″ ____________80½″______________________ 230.4

    Haye __________6′ 3″ _____________78″ ________________________215

Haye is faster than Gomez at this point but the orthodox style suits Vitali well. And the first punch landing knocks Haye out, simple as that.

The Wladimir-Haye fight is the interesting one, because Wowa has chin problems as well. Haye stands absolutely no chance vs. any version of Vitali.

Bollox, if Haye stayed extremely disciplined against this version of Vitali it would be a wide UD for Haye :deal

Haye was tired after 5 rounds with a very faded Monte Barrett.

If you want to see what a Vitali/Haye fight would be like watch Vitali vs Herbie Hide.

i think it's fair to say that vitali is past prime now, he looked a lot slower than in 2003. a part of it was also that gomez is a really sloppy fighter that is hard to look good against. haye and arreola would certainly give vitali more problems, a prime vitali certainly destroys them but at this stage it would be really competitive.

He was maybe tired after 5 against Barrett but nowhere near as tired as Vit looked tonight and Haye was in a mad brawl of a fight against Barrett. He would fight way more disciplined against Vit knowing how good his chin is :deal

He didn't look extremely disciplined vs. Barrett, in fact, he was knocked down and left himself wide open silly many times. Vitali might not look like an excellent boxer, but he's very hard to hit and very effective. He also has a good output and an excellent chin. Horrible fight for Haye.

I agree he was way too wild against Barrett but he wouldnt have so little respect for Vitali. He knew full well he could get Barrett out of there with 1 punch.

Haye looked sloppy and clumsy as hell against a very faded Monte Barrett.

It doesn't matter whether he has respect or not, it's the way he fights. An over-the-hill Mormeck decked him and don't tell me Haye didn't have respect for the undisputed CW champion. Vitali hits 10 times harder.

Vitali will systematically destroy Haye. I really don't think Haye has enough to hurt Vitali, and I think Vitali will land alot easier on Haye.

Watch the Enzo fight, thats how he will look to fight Vitali as he was wary of Enzo's power.

Gomez should've just quit after the 7th. No reason to take so much punishment. It looked like he was going to die.
