It wasn't advertised as an exhibition match. If it had been, then fair enough. Stop the fight at the first sign of blood. But it wasn't - it was a boxing match. And a lot of people had paid good money to watch it. For sure, Roy was having the better of the fight, but Sheika caught Roy a couple of times and was showing some signs of coming back into it. It was a long, long way from a beat down like Mosley/Margarito. Sheika wasn't shaky, wasn't hurt. Stupid stoppage. Full stop.
this is the comparison to lidell vs silva washed up beats even more washed up well fellas that just show's u how good calzaghe is after what he did to jones u wanna brag about this **** fight well give joe the credit make him a legend!!!!!
No. Definitely not. He was showing no signs of that whatsoever. In each round, he took a worse beating than the preceding one. That said, I'd have let it go on another round or two as Sheika was still largely unhurt and in no serious danger. But he wasn't going the distance in this one anyway. The stoppage was premature, but it was only a matter of time.
If the fight had continued, Roy could have killed that kid. His face was beaten up, and it could have gotten much worse. This was an easy fight for Roy, he looked the best I have seen in 5 years, and Roy is ready to KO BHop with that straight right that Bhop won't know how to defend against.
You exaggerate. Sheika did catch Roy with a couple of reasonable shots. Would Roy have won if the fight had gone on? Most probably. But then why don't we stop all fights after the first 5 rounds if one guy is winning? Perhaps there should be a new rule: "if a fighter is seen to be winning the fight after 5 rounds, the referee will stop the fight." ...or maybe a 12 round fight should be a 12 round fight.
If Sheika wasn't doing anything, all the more reason the fight shouldn't have been stopped so he could get more beat up. Gone were the good old days that the ref even helps a fighter to get up just to let the fight go on..
Did you see the fight? Sheika was coming forward for most of it. Sure, Roy was better, but Sheika was earning his money.
I did agree with the part of your post that said the stoppage was premature. But the dude was on his way to a loss (probably by KO) anyway.
Jones was one punch KO-ed by a PERFECT shot from a big LW in TarverONCE. I don't think Omar was going to throw taht good of a punch last night.
He looked quite good, although obviously against an opponent who was tailor-made for him. The ridiculous stoppage marred what was otherwise shaping up to be a one-sided beatdown for Roy.
