I know there are some runners on here brighton bomber is very knowledgble so i seek advice, My half marathon is a week away and yesterday i did my last long distance run 15 miles yesterday what should i do for the week ahead how many times should i run? how far? and how intense?
I personally would do 3 runs during the week to taper for a half marathon. I would do a couple of easy recovery run 3-4 miles, and 1 tempo run at race pace for about 5 miles. What kind of time are you aiming for?
An hour and a half although training has been great and im secretly hoping to get under that as i have hit 1 hour 28 and 1 hour 29 in 2 half marathon training runs.
Its Reading and i prefer the weather to be quite cool but sunny all the same, I prefer cooler conditions,
If you have done it in training then you should have no problems. I always find the adrenaline boost from an actual race always makes me run faster than in training.
16,000 people im really looking forward to it but i wish the race was 2morrow! This week is going to be the hardest because i cant train as hard and its going to drag.
Yes, nothing more annoying than having to weave past countless runners who don't have a chance of finishing the race anywhere near the front. Why do people do this, all you're going to do is slow down the faster runners and you will still run the same time you were going to anyway but also be disheartened by everyone passing you at the begining. For my last half marathon I knew I'd run a slow time due to injuries during training so I put myself much further back at the start so not to get in the way of any of the faster runners.
16,000 is quite a big field and if you don't start at the front you'll be walking for at least a few hundred metres because it'll be that congested. there might be markers up ie 1hr 40,1 hour 30 etc etc and if there are ,go and start with the good club runners at 1 hr 20. when are you having your last run this week ??
Im doing a 5 mile tempo run today tommorow il go in the gym do some light weights to break a sweat wednsday il rest completly then thursday in the gym for more light training to break a sweat and keep active then friday do my final 3 mile run at relaxed pace then saturday off then the race let me know if i should tweak that at all?
