SEE..as Dr Vooh, I said after the alzage fight that RJJ was still good enough...not what he once was, but he still can do it. Calzages' style was to Roy, as Hopkins's to many of the better fighters BTW way to go Roy! :good
I haven't seen the fight, and RJJ didn't get young again overnight so somoene who can be objective please tell me, how bad was Sheika last night?
It's worth saying Sheika hadn't been active in 18 months, and was hardly a great fighter to start with. But Roy isn't completely finished. He just can't compete with the top dogs at 175 like B-Hop and Dawson.
Roy was not shot, despite what you've been told, against Joe. He had just declined to such a degree that, while he was still a top 10 LHW, the Calzaghe fight tells you very little about what such a fight would have looked like when both were prime. Most likely, a comfortable win for Roy. Regarding last night's fight, Sheika demonstrated that he was never in the same general class as Roy. He was game and came forward, but even this severely diminished Roy was just too fast for him. The stoppage was premature in that Omar was not badly hurt and not in any danger and was more than able to continue. That said, he lost every round and was getting hit at will. A cut had just been opened and he was on his way to a one-sided loss, probably by KO. So while it should have been allowed to continue, the result probably would not have changed any. Now Roy has a victory of sorts to retire on. Sadly, he seems intent on fighting on. And he can beat most anyone lower than top six at SMW or LT heavy. But if he fights a Dawson or a Diaconu or a Kessler or a Bute, he risks humiliation or injury. He really should hang them up an dgo out with a modicum of dignity.
