well lads tonight is on the grinds 50th episode! I did an interview with Harry Hawkins that I was going to save for thursdays show but i think I'll try and tack it on the end! It was originally ment to be 5/10 minutes long but it ran for 22 minutes. and we could have talked for hours!
looking forward to that post. brian peters put on such an event..from start to finish all of it was amazing...i didnt think the amatuers / womens / pro mix may work {dont even know why i thought it may not have but it worked perfectly...it was such a great nights entertainment..all of it.. ray moylette fight as i said before was a great amatuer display, the first round of that fight was a good as you'll see... katie taylor and the support she got...jim rock, andy murray, andy lee....so much to think back on... the funny thing was, i felt part of something last night....i felt like i was so emotionally involved watching dunne..and wanting him to win so much...i really felt like i was part of something, part of a huge group of people helping dunne along...i'm not explaining that well.. {i'm nearly 40 years old..and i dont mind saying i had tears in my eyes after the dunne fight} i think brian peters isnt looking at how boxing shows have been done in the past as is doing it his way...and it really works...i'd love to see a similar amatuer/ women/ pro event from him again...i really think he is going to make boxing a great sport in ireland again..or at least wake people up to how good irish boxing is....and not just amatuer / womens or pro..but all of it... for the price of a ticket how much value was that??..what a great night..it's going to take me weeks to come down from this.. healy...write your post...it'll be better than what i can put into words
Yeahs its really got me thinkin about how high the standard of amateur boxing in Ireland is compared to the States.. How did Moylette get on??
moylette beat gorman 9-6...i couldnt understand the scoring...gorman threw so many body shots... but what a great little fight it was...the first round was as good as you'll see... did anyone else see it at all ?? i'm posting on different threads here about the same thing...i'll just copy this from another post earlier.. dunne looked like a man who had trained long and hard for this fight, and got himself into the best boxing machine he could be...after that 5th round and to get to where he was in the 11th was a testiment to his conditioning. i would never in a million years predicted an 11th round knockout for dunne...if the bookies were giving 1000/1 i wouldnt have taken it....i was hoping with my heart that dunne would get a points win...and losing the last rounds, as i thought he'd be kinda wasted by then... he changed himself..he learned from the kiko fight and thats a fact...he showed incredible grit and determination...
I missed the Moylett fight (I ****in hate roogby) but Oisin ***an wasnt happy with the result and thought the other guy should have won.
was taling to moylette last night after his fight . sound bloke and he said he was very tired didnt perform that good . he beat gorman 9-2 in the seniors i think
Can I pose a question here. For years this has irritated me, the way Irish boxers are constantly underestimated. For instance when was the last time an Irish fighter challenging for a major title was automatic favourite. It's been a long time. Dunne, Collins[against both Pyatt and Eubank], McCullough, Loughran, mcAuley were all underdogs and given little chance of winning the world titles they won.I think McGuigan was slight favourite, but it was generally considered a 50/50 fight.Even at European,Commonwealth or British title level, the Irish fighter tends to be the underdog. McCloskey, Rogan, Sinclair,Close, Loughran, Russell[aginst both Feeney and Smart],Noel Magee, Eamonn Magee, Corbett, Kelly[in his Commonwealth title challenge] were expected to lose, but were victorious in their challenge. An example of the way Irish fighters are treated has been the run-up to this Dunne/Cordoba contest. Nobody gave Dunne a chance on this forum or the Brit Forum. On this thread alone a only a few thought he could do it. The "Boxrec warriors" were out in force telling anyone that would listen that Dunne would lose, and lose big. Next month Martin Lindsay challeges for Paul Applebys British title at The Ulster Hall, Belfast. How many here dare to bet against the Irishman.
I agree it seems every time i try to write a piece on an irish boxer theyre the underdog....... Oh i threw this artical together earlier ive watched the fight 4 times since i got home and i still cant remember the thing! its just a haze of greatness!!! http://www.eastsideboxing.com/news.php?p=19161&more=1
Excellent bout between two master technicians. A real contrast from the lumbering heavyweight title fight between Vitaly and Gomez. I love watching the lighter weight classes!
Yeah Sardu, I know you mean. The heavies of today are rubbish compared to yesteryear.Although our own heavy, Martin Rogan has put some excitment back into the division.
