"I want to unify the division and Bute is someone who is stopping me from doing that," Froch told BBC Sport. "If I get through Taylor it is a fight I want and a fight I know I can win." This content is protected :good
It's nice to know that he is interested in the biggest fights, though. IF he beats Taylor, and Bute stays unbeaten, a fight COULD be made in spring next year, in Montreal. The division's coming alive big time...there will be many top fights to be made very soon.
Froch will beat Taylor, but Bute will lose a rematch to Andrade should it be made. If I were Froch I would be eyeing up Kessler in the UK after he takes care of business Stateside.
If I remember correctly. Showtime is VERY interested in a Taylor-Bute unification bout. But they are not interested in a Bute-Froch bout. Something about two non-American fighters fighting each other. :| Personally, I have nothing against a Bute-Froch bout. I would love to see that fight. Bute I doubt it can be made without US tv money.
it is good that he is interested in meaningful fights, hes 32. He also is making a HUGE step up in class vs. taylor, and judiging from the PAscal fight, I don't think so.
Of course, the outcome of the Froch/Taylor fight might change their mind. But Showtime won't broadcast that fight from Europe. Calzaghe-Kessler did horrible ratings for HBO. Showtime will never take the risk. Montreal on the other hand is in the same timezone as the American East Coast. It could work. If Froch is willing to fight in Montreal.
Hatton did it because of bigger fights were available Stateside. Other than the Floyd fight the money was comparable here. Calzaghe did it because there were no more old, shot opponents to beat here, they were all below the age of 37.
Showtime used to show Calzaghe's fights from Europe all the time. Fights in the UK have previously been staged at 1 or 2 am for the convenience of US TV (Calzaghe/Lacy, Hatton/Tszyu, Haye/Maccarinelli). Calzaghe v Kessler was the lowest ever HBO world championship boxing rating at the time, but that should be seen in the context of a general slump in their ratings - in the next year multiple fights did lower ratings for them, including Taylor v Lacy and Mosley v Mayorga. I'd say a fight stateside would be more likely but it's not out of the question that it could be UK-based.
I'm not sure why the writer called Bute "travel-shy". He just haven't had the opportunity for a big fight in the USA yet. If Taylor called and offered him a fight. I have no doubt in my mind that he would travel south of the border for it. Beside, it's not like Carl Froch has been mister globetrotter up until now. He fought his last 9 fights in the confine comfort of the UK.
Froch should concentrate on the fight with Taylor,it is going to be a very hard fight for him.Im not a huge fan of Taylor but he is several leagues above anybody Froch has faced to date, and there is a chance Froch will be outclassed and stopped in this fight.Beat Taylor then talk about Bute and besides if he wants to beat the best in the division he should be calling Kessler out.
