Last week on Steve Bunce's Boxing Hour Kalle Sauerland made it sound like Abraham/Forrest is a pretty sure thing. This is a good move for AA. He'll be fighting a known fighter on TV in the USA. Even though Forrest is a smaller guy moving up, he still represents a step up in class over most of Abraham's title defenses. Pavlik/Mora is a tough sell. Team Pavlik has been very quiet on the subject. Jack Leow did one interview where he said he does not like the idea, and Pavlik called Mora, "Rubio with no power." However, if the fight gets signed, on some level it does make sense. It would give us Pavlik and Abraham against two well known opponents who split a pair of fights. In this scenario Abraham gets the better fighter. He comes to the USA and fights a guy who beat Pavlik's opponent Sergio Mora. This is all good for Arthur, and a great way to hype Pavlik/Abraham. I'm starting to get the idea that Arum and Sauerland know exactly what they are doing. I still don't like it, but I do understand it.
Nothing from Team Pavlik yet. I hope both guys are talking about skipping the interim step and just fighting each other. Hard to say. I think Pavlik trusts Arum since he got him the championship.
Forrest and Mora are going to get knocked into next week, which for both portents: realistically - further title contention at 154. ideally - retirement.
Well -- you may be right about Pavlik trusting Arum, but as much as I hate to say it, Arum has good reasons NOT to trust Team Pavlik.
I agree, unless they put both fights on the same card. Then it would make sense as a promotional gimmick, but still be a meaningless fight.
For the boxing fans it would be a disgrace to see Pavlik fight someone who lost against the man who quit on his stool. In the end Pavlik himself can only loose if he accepts this fight, because if he doesn't look as good as he should against such a guy, then he is going to loose a lot of respect - same with Abraham, see his last fight.
I take it the Abraham - Forrest fight will be at 160 for Arthurs titles. I like this match up and hopefully it can happen in the US. A tough fight for both men but I give a slight edge to Abraham. I couldn't care less about Mora so hopefully Pavlik destroys him into retirement.
Abraham/Forrest as an 'undercard' event? Sad to say that we have bought into this 'main event' crap. It inhibits good card over who gets top billing. :nut
