they won the final and deserve all the credit for it and for believing till the end,but Bayern was the better team that night.
Milan weren't just 89-90, their 92 team that went the whole season unbeaten or 94 team that beat Barca 4-0 in the European cup final were probably even better than their 89-90 team IMO.
i agree they were lucky in the final, but they were missing that partnership of Keane and Scholes!any team would miss them, any team!! plus the next season (2000) they played their best football, dominated the league (12 points or something) and lost to a great Real Madrid side in the CL in 2 classic games..... a Ronaldo hat-trick put them out!!no shame there..... i`m not a united fan either, hate them in fact, but i do think that team was special and would give anyone trouble.... their current team is over-rated (see Ronaldo, Berbatov, Carrick, Ferdinand)! I mean Ronaldo is a complete joke, if the team dont play well and dont have lots of possession he is the worst player on the pitch.....when Rooney (best man u player)plays well, man u play well and Ronaldo gets to lose possession all game and pop up at the right time, in the right place and score (and get all the accolades)
Was good to see though. I'm not a Man U fan but seeing Bayern getting cocky and showing off then crying at the full time whistle was a sight to behold.
maybe! but just playing better doesnt mean much if you dont win. You could relate that to boxing for example, macaranelli was winning the rounds clearly and then got KO. the better side on the night doesnt always guarentee you the win.
yeah really, better in the final as they had a full strength team out but not in the champs league as a whole.
Like I said in the other thread Leeds United 68-75 should be in there and the Steau Bucherest 85-88 European Cup winners 85 runners up 88 Semi Finalists 87 All with a team full of Romanians And I would also include Fenervacoas of the 60's in there..... Both Shankly and Matt Busby said there were the best team in Europe at the time
Celtic won it with 11 players from within a 30 mile radius of their stadium, 10 of whom came through the youth system. They also got to another final and 2 semi-inals in the next few years with the same team. Red Star Belgrade's 91 team were also pretty good (they did have a foreigner though, a Romanian,) it's just a shame they played for penalties in the final itself.
they did, but they have not even been in the champions league since it was formed have they? the champs league as its called now has never been won twice in consecutive seasons by the same team. but that only goes back to 1992.
