I concur with Eze's last post, but you make a strong point. Only thing is, it was Tarver, not a KO artist. Then again with Johnson, not a KO artist. Tarver talked like he was superman after he stopped RJJ, but he got the same medicine going up in weight to make a movie and gets schooled by Hopkins. I believe that was weight drainage too. All respect to Hopkins, but the weight was a factor to his loss. Oscar is a bigger example, but many want to put him out to pature and say he was totally outclass and shot.

He should have stayed at heavyweight with a fight with Byrd or a slower Tyson..Losing 20lbs in a short span of time in the fighting business proves to be fatal.

I think Roy was about the age where his reflexes were starting to slow a bit but the weight loss sped up his decline and when he got stopped it also had a psychological affect on him, that made him more tenative against Johnson and in Tarver III. I think it was a combination of these factors but I would have to say I don't think he would have lost to Tarver or Johnson if he had stayed at LHW the whole time. :rasta

I don't think so, and I think the 25 pounds of muscle is complete and utter garbage.

Firstly, Thomas Hearns went from middleweight, to light heavy, and back to middle, and did fine. A difference of 15 pounds at time of weigh-in. Same with the fighters mentioned above. It's not like he went from heavy to middleweight or anything like that.

Jones fought at 193 against Ruiz. A weight he had no reason to bother about drying out, or water weight. NOthing. Pure walking around weight.

Down to 175. that's 18 pounds, not 25. And at light heavy, he would have done the usual drying out etc that all fighters do. So he's probably dropped what, 5 to 10 pounds of muscle over a few months. No big deal at all.

    I think it's just a convenient excuse.

he was not 193. He was 200 in tip top shape then add the weight he added when not working out.

Jones said he was preparing to fight Tyson but that deal fell out and he had to go down to LHW by which time he was 210lbs.

    BS BS BS BS

I read after the Ruiz fight in an interview that Roy had NO ISSUES losing weight. He said he was down under 190 a couple weeks after he beat Ruiz.

This weight drain theory is BS

Because he wanted no excuses Jones said that. Jones was 210+ after the Ruiz fight.

When have you heard Jones use the weight as an issue after the first fight with Tarver? 0 times.

And to say that the weight was a non issue, did you not see Jones body at the first Tarver weigh in? He looked horrible.

He didn't HAVE to do anything. He's a grown man that signed a contract, knowing fully how much time he had to make weight.

And again, plenty of other fighters have done the same thing in the past without an issue.

How about his use of steroids? Did quitting roids have anything to do with it?

Is there one thread you have posted on that you have not had the intention of being a complete troll? Maybe you go hiding after Haye KO's Quitali's sister?:huh

To be honest, Tarver was stupid in the 1st fight. He could've KO'd Jones. But he, for whatever reason, didn't. Jones looked horrible in there.

It was his ego that got him into trouble. He's a dumbass for that. Jones is usually real smart about these things. He believed he was superman, cutting down pure muscle, no sweat. From 200 to 175, A ok. He f'ed himself over. What I don't understand is, why the hell did he do things on TARVERS terms. I mean WTF? Why didn't he say Tarver, I plan finishing my career at Heavy. You can come up to heavy and fight me for the WBA title, or shut the **** up. I'm the boss.

I still, to this day, don't get why Jones did things on Tarvers terms.

I am not saying Roy used an excuse his fans did. I read a B O X INGTALK interview stating he would have no problems shedding weight if he wanted to dip back to 175.

Most back then would just weigh in what they naturally weigh in with maybe a few pounds extra.

Jones was taking off lean muscle in a short period of time. Very unhealthy.

He lost 10-15lbs of muscle in avery very short period.
