Prime Michalczewski vs 2007-08 Calzaghe: Who would have Won?

Hmmm...I actually thought that the first one he struggled in early on. And the controversy was that even though DM was all busted up nearly as bad as Hall, they stopped it because Hall had some bad swelling.

Im fairly certain the 2nd one is where he smashes him at the end..Just nailing him with a non-stop barrage of shots until the refs steps in. But he still had to work a bit harder then usual the get past Hall.

Either it was not prime DM, thats very true.

 

Michalczewski would have been to much for JC at any age, but Joe would make it competetive.

The size factor would be at play at any age as well.

 

As would Joes speed.
This really could go either way IMO.

He is bigger, stronger, better technical skills, way more punching power.. Calzaghe would bank some of the early rounds but once Dariusz started going he would grind him down.

The only way i see Joe winning this fight is on cuts as DM cut really really easily.

 

I'd pick my boy Joe at 168 over pretty much anyone, however I dont think Calzaghe is the fighter at 175 as he was at 168, whether this is to do with him being older in age 175 or whether its because of the weight im not sure. Maybe if we'd seen Calzaghe move up earlier in his career we would have known more.

DM. Yet you never know with Joe, you want to pick against him, because of his slapping, awkward, and lack of big punching.. but yet he has always won. Tough, but still DM prime was a pretty good fighter.

 

After watching DM vs Griffin I would give Joe a very good chance in this fight.Griffin was hitting DM at will but got tired and didn't have the strength to hold DM off.Joe doesn't get tired and with DM being easy to hit I can see JC by UD.

I asked Joe Calzaghe about DM and Roy Jones in 1998 a week or more before the Branco Sobot (1st WBO defence) and not long before Eubank's cruiserweight challenge against Carl Thompson. I'm almost sure Calzaghe pretty much dismissed DM and said that he did not look good in his last fight. He was full of praise for RJJ, pretty much something else back then. I guessed at that point he wanted no part of DM and he did not say he would beat Jones or anything, as Jones was pretty awesome back then.

DM would have beaten him back then, but not later on or now. Pretty much the same with RJJ.

I think your probably right. I can see a young JC being too gung ho & getting KO'd. But a mature JC probably boxes his way to a decision, a la Kessler.

Undisputed, 1 Vacant WBO via Eubank, Via Lacy IBF and Ring, Via Kessler WBA, WBC.
Stepped up and beat the number one at light heavyweight Hopkins and then former multichampion Roy Jones.
The gap (lost years for whatever reason) between Eubank and Lacy, wasn't elite level mind you.

 

I can't help but think Calzaghe would have outboxed him.
