Okay okay, I've stopped laughing. ****ing A McGain, you should already be in the ESB Hall Of Fame.

Okay gents, whose weight draining had a more profound effect and why? Oscar's or Roy's

Btw, Widdow_Maker, can you believe Iowa won the team title this year without any individual champions?!

How can you compare the two? Roy Jones weighed a grand total difference of 7 pounds on fight night against Ruiz and Tarver. Jones only moved up for one fight and still weighed in 7 pounds lighter than the current cruiserweight limit. Chris Byrd had been fighting at Heavyweight (above the cruiserweight limit) for 14 years! Weighing as high as the 220's, but generally settling around 214 or so. Then.. after 14 years as a heavyweight, the man killed himself and cut to light heavyweight.

You are acting like Roy Jones moved up and became a natural heavyweight for one fight or something.... when he allowed himself to bulk up and still only weighed in at 193.

The weight excuse is a very poor one.

    Thing is, weight, whatever

Jones wasnt the same to how he was pre ruiz

He wasnt the same in the 1st fight but he managed to scrape his way to a victory, and then lost the rematches

If Tarver had been better he couldve beat him in the first fight too. Jones just wasnt as good anymore, I dont see how it really takes away from what he did before that just like many legends have losses towards the end of their career.

I was surprised to see Metcalf lose to Caldwell like he did. He actually beat Caldwell 19-3 (tech fall) at an All Star match earlier in the season. The match didn't count against their records though.

Why does it need one? Roy just got beat... it's as simple as that.

    But why?
    Was tarver always better?
Did Jones suddenly become **** overnight 4 no reason?
    It does need explaining.

Tarver beat him in the ams as well, and perhaps like Forrest to Mosley, he just had Roy's number.

The explanation is he wasnt as good as he used to be

surely you can see that from watching the first tarver fight, he never just ran out of steam like that before

the reasons can be debated all day but surely everyone recognises he was faded even in the first fight

Thats the only gut to ever beat him his whole varsity career dating back to high school. Unreal.

That back flip from Caldwell was not classy imho.

The point is, people (including me) are saying Jones being weight drained is the reason he was faded.

Roy beat Tarver after dropped the weight he gained after fighting Ruiz. Therefore in the 2nd fight, he was already at the weight because he already came back down! The only question is whether or not the weight loss caused him to lose a step or was it simply age.

My opinion is he just lost a step because of age. Whether or not the weight loss sped up the decline is unknown, but we do know he KOed by a well-timed punch as he moved towards a lefty's left, he was not outsped by Tarver. That's more to do with his fundamentals, not his age.
