I can definitely agree with that, especially when I saw how 173 pound billy conn made louis do the suzi-Q and he wasn't even a big puncher.

How can you say that, sir, when billy conn boxed the hell out of louis and even hurt him? Do you think that ali, who was considerably taller, had a much longer reach, about 40 pounds heavier and much faster hand and foot couldn't do the same? It's no contest, ali would play with louis before taking him out.

Ali was only an inch or so taller, true had a much longer reach, but weightwise there wasn't really that much between them. Louis regularily fought at 200 pounds and over even on the way up. Ali for instance for the second Liston fight weighed 206 pounds. It was only on his comeback after his layoff into his late twenties and beyond that Ali fought at around 220 pounds and upwards.

Conn Pastor and Farr would get Quarry on stylistic advantage if nothing else.

Bivins would have a good shot at beating him for the same reasons.

Quarry might be able to beat Baer on stylistic advantage but it is verry hard to make a case for him being more acomplished than Baer.

Quarry Ray is a pick em fight with a lot of unknowns.

If Quarry had fought in this era he would have fought for the title but I dont see himself setting himself out as the outstanding contender.

You can make a case for virtualy anybody beating Louis Ali or whoever by taking their worst performance and substituting in a better fighter.

    Its nonsense.

If Louis had been fighgting Ali instead of Conn he would not have dehydrated himself before the fight to make the weight disparity look smaller.

By the same token if Ali had been fighting Jack Dempsey instead of Henry Cooper he would not have clowned around infront of him and alowed himself to be taged by the left hook.

This is very true. But Conn was not the only stick and mover that gave Louis some trouble, though. Farr and Walcott are other examples. It's not really fair to count Charles, but it's pretty clear that it was the skillful boxers that gave Louis the most trouble.

If we only count the fights where both were reasonably close to their primes (which excludes Sharkey and Charles) the most skillful boxers Louis met were Schmeling, Conn and Walcott. Schmeling and arguably Walcott beat him, and Conn came close to beating him.

Ali's 1-2 combination would be Joe's undoing IMO. Louis rarely had defense for the right hand as shown in the Schmeling fight and we all know Ali had a pretty damn good right hand.

Schmeling didn't have ali's speed neither. Speed creates power and I doubt Joe would see the right hand coming.

Watch that video I posted up near the top. Joe Louis vs Walcott II. Look at how smooth and slick Walcott was.

****, Louis shouldn't have won that fight, but HE DID.

    The thing about Schmeling is:

He had the sneakiest right hand (not the fastest or the hardest) in the history of the heavyweight division.

He hit like an absolute ba5tard.

Louis's main vulnerability was to an overhand right just as Alis main vulnerability was to a left hook.

Therfore Schmeling is Louis's Joe Frazier.
