He wouldn't knock Joe out, but he'd win.

Just because Hagler is the superior fighter, it's not a given that he'd just move up two divisions to 175 (which is what Calzaghe would be in his era) and win easily.

How he handles the move up is pretty much the main question.

Other than Calzaghe hatred, Hagler nut-hugging, or just plain ignorance, I don't see how people are like "oh Hagler in a few rounds easily".

Calzaghe is the better boxer by a relatively wide margin, but it's hard to pick against Hagler.

So I'm not pickin **** and basically wasted everybodies time who read this post.

He would be in this fight.

Hagler was versatile and could fight both ways, but he would likely fight as a Southpaw, which would make it a straightfoward fight.

Calzaghe is the taller and faster man and has good counterpunching ability as well, so Marvin would have to force the fight by getting inside.

If Marvin stays on the outside, Calzaghe could make this a one sided fight, but then again at the same time Calzaghe sometimes makes the decision to brawl and in that case, Hagler might knock him out or seriously hurt him enough especially to the body and wear him down.

I suppose using the word better "boxer" by a wide margin was misleading, what I meant to say is that Calzaghe would be dominant on the outside and it would be Hagler that would have to press the fight.

Calzaghe is a good fighter and I think a lot of people are underrating him and his ability in this fight.

He would be the bigger and faster man and he's never lost a fight. The guy is versatile too, but I don't know, maybe he won't have the punch to hold him off.

    Interesting look at the fight.

I don't see Calzaghe being dominant on the outside. Hagler was very good from the outside, had the better jab, and despite being shorter, had a very long wingspan. He was slower though.

I think Calzaghe can be pretty good with his own tricks up close. He knows when to clinch at the right time, punches his way out of the clinch. His in-fighting skills aren't as refined as Hagler's, but he also has a size advantage which helps. I trust his punch resistance better than Hearns, who was rubbery legged after the first. Calzaghe is good at gauging distance as well.

I don't see either guy dominating. If they were the same size I'd pick Hagler to win a clear decision, but they're not. A number of great fighters, who were middleweight champs, have moved up to light-heavyweight and beaten less accomplished light-heavyweight champions. But I think more highly of Calzaghe as a boxer than I do the likes of Jeff Harding, 40-something Mike McCallum, Dennis Andries, and Antonio Tarver.

People hate on Calzaghe like they hate on Mayweather, but they don't give Calzaghe enough credit.

Both are versatile, multi dimensional fighters, and as of right now both never lost a fight.

If JC had fought in Haglers day he'd have been a LHW all his career. So were talking about a MW vs a LHW.Hagler is the better fighter but Joe is bigger and faster. This is 50/50 in my book. But if someone held a gun to my head I'd go with Hagler. Also all the people saying Hagler by stoppage are living in cloud cuckoo land,Joe hasn't been close to beeing stoppage by SMWs or LHWs.So I don't see a MW doing it.

Hagler wins this one very easily.I honestly think the fight would last only as long as Marvin wanted it to.Calzaghe would not have anything to bother a fighter of Haglers calibre.

  13. Agreed. Unequivocally.
