Calzaghe on bullying

It wouldn't surprise me if one of the Calzaghe stories were true.

He's often alluded to it himself in interviews, talking about being drunk and finding out "things are different than in the ring" when he's had one too many.

 

Im not his biggest fan,but if he has spoken out about something that brings misery to kids up and down the country every day,good on the man.

 

Joe has a big rant about Naz in his book. He said he, Naz and Carl Thompson all went to a WBO convention in the states togeather and while he said Naz was alright to him but was picking on Carl the whole weekend about things like "How much did u make for your last fight Carl??" "How much? I wouldn't take a **** for that" and eventually Carl just snapped and told Naz to shut it or he would get a slap. He also said that Naz teased Eubank one time saying "shows yer belt" at the Airport and Eubank gave him a cuff and they had to be seperated.

 

Ha ha ha ha the prince will never die..

 

hard to concentrate on the interview when all i can look at is his eyebrows. if your going to shave your eyebrows joe you need to not let stubble grow back. bit gay isnt it? a boxer shaving his eyebrows?
plus iv also noticed that he has one of the largest head to body ratios in great britain.

 

I remember the Naz/Eubank thing at the airport making the news at the time. Great scene in the "Little Prince, Big Fight" documentary where Eubank visits Naz at his hotel and starts reciting poetry. TV gold that one! :rofl

 

I agree. Whether you like Joe or not, if his stories are true or somewhat embellished, it doesn't really matter, at least he's adding his weight to something positive. :good

 

I've heard many variations on this. The most popular one - and I have actually seen this in print somewhere - is that he sparked out somebody in a Cardiff pub whilst stationed here on military service. I did hear it was The Westgate but I'm not sure about that.

 

I suppose we can only speak from our own experiences. I met Naz at the Steve Robinson v Freddie Cruz fight in Cardiff in 1994 and he was came across as a super nice guy. I was 11 years old and this was the first fight I had ever attended live. Naz was amazing, he signed autographs for us, posed for pictues and chatted to me and my Uncle throughout the fight.

Admittedly this was before he had won a world title and became a superstar and I never saw or spoke to him after this but it always baffles me when people recount negative tales of meeting Naz coz this certainly wasn't my experience of meeting him.

Maybe it did all got to his head when he started having major success but I think that Naz we saw and tv and the Naz outside of the media spotlight were two different people.

my mate has no interest in boxing but has it in his mind he wants to make some sort of movie about him

1989- looks wrong way at a crowd and they jump him he fights back then they stick a glass bottle in his neck, cutting a artery

1992-accused of anti social behaviour and then shot in the legs by the PIRA

1993- throws up the head after people even questioning whether or not he should go to the olympics and doesnt go as a protest

takes 2 years off.....

1994 arrested after mass brawl destroys belfast city centre pub

2004, Magee was attacked in the Blacks Road area of Belfast. He was pulled from his car and beaten with a baseball bat, he had his leg broken and knee fractured lung collapsed

also admits after flooring hatton he stepped back, as he had been drinking before the fights and doing no road work, didnt trust his fitness enough to risk going for the KO and failing and being gassed out

 

why did the PIRA shoot him? Is he anti republican?

 

na he wont talk about it but its usually nothing to do with politics, more to do with drug dealing joy riding , stealing from houses and the like, the beating he took 1989 and the one with the baseball bats nearly killed him

It's funny, Calzaghe seems to have aged about five years since he retired.

 

Boy that is a blast from the past. I remember Jim Watt losing a fight in Lagos, Nigeria against Dele Jonathan for the Commonwealth Lightweight title. I think it was around 1974 OR 1975. Watt would later go on and win the world title until he ran into the great Arguello. Watt also beat Olympian Howard Davies Jnr and one of my personal favorites the exciting Sean O' Grady. The late Dele Jonathan one of the best ever to come out of Nigeria unfortunately would never fight for the world title eventually losing the Commonwealth when he was past his best to an excellent fighter from Guyana Lennox Blackmore.
