So many--and I am as guilty as anyone--erased Bernard Dunne from their list of fighters to keep an eye on after he was wiped out inside a round by the decent-but-not-great Kiko Martinez in 2007. And he didn't do much to shake up that sentiment until his latest late, up-and-down victory. I--like the majority of fight fans outside Ireland, I think--gave Dunne almost no chance against the excellent Ricardo Cordoba. Then Dunne floors Cordoba, gets floored, gets up and stops his man in the 11th. Who knew? The Irish boxing public, I guess. Well, it happened.

What are Dunne's options, looking forward? For a good test? For easy pickings? For another war? For a suicide mission?

You should post this on the "Irish Boxing" thread. You'd get a lot of good responses.

This post is better here. the fight is available on the rte.ie website under 'other sports' and the question is a worldwide one on super-bantamweights.

Over here with the hype machine in full flow, and I hope we don't lose the run of ourselves though it's a possibility, anybody who saw the bout live basicallly wet themselves. There was good reason to.

But his name is being mentioned along with Vazquez, Caballero (who called him out - said he'd be willing to come to Dublin after his next fight and beat Bernard up - in a newspaper today) and even Molitor. His mandatory is Poonswat.

Caballero is still the real WBA champ, in any case.

Dunne ought to pay his dues in Europe first, and take on Rendall Munroe.

They have one stand out common opponent....... Kiko Martinez. Dunne was iced in no time, Munroe has two pretty clear points wins.

dunne wasnt outclassed by kiko he was caught cold. its fair to say after seeing dunne beat cordoba it was a once off against martinez and dunne would beat him at a rematch and id fancy him to beat munroe as well :good

I can't see any reason for a fight with Munroe its like taking one step forward and two steps back, let Munroe fight some more quality opposition as apart from Munroe who is a euro level fighter at best, and only caught Dunne cold, his fights have been against b-level fighters.

I don't see him standing much of a chance against any of the top4 but I think that Dunne vs Molitor is a good fight to see where he's at.

However the smart thing to do would be to milk his title a little bit before going in there in a risky fight. He deserves it.

The only time i saw Dunne was when he got blitzed in 1 round, so i did not expect the performance by him, and he ruined my 5 leg multi bet, but from the reports he earned it so congrats to him.

    Why not fight Munroe?

The fact remains that he was stopped inside a round by a very average, crude, not partucularly heavy handed slugger in Martinez.

Hardly bodes well for a showdown against the likes of Vasquez, Marquez, Caballero, Lopez, or even PDL and Molitor.

i think munroe fight makes perfect sense for dunne . moloney has been mouthing off so why not shut him up by beating munroe ! if he wins that then he has to fight poonsawat the thai fella in a mandatory which is also a winnable fight and then go for the big boys in 122 . after the cordoba performance i think he could give anyone in the 122 division a tough fight except juanma who imo is better then vazquez and marquez

Why would Vasquez want the WBA micky mouse title?

Munroe would stand Dunne on his head........ let's get the avatar bets going.
