My brother is a big time basketball and football player, he swears by these things, he won't play in a game without drinking one first.

Does that say zero carbs or are my eyes deceiving me? If it does, it's basically bull****, energy is provided by food. But whatever wakes you up I guess.

Personally, i'm not a fan of any type of stimulant. Yes, they can be effective at certain times, but no one should ever become reliant on them. Caffeine can give you a boost, and it can also aid in fat loss, but the negatives far outweigh the positives.

If your diet is good, your training programme is right and you get enough rest/sleep, you should never be in a position to need a stimulant.

Take me for example. I wake up at 5.30am, every day. I do a brief workout at 6am mon to fri, consisting of skipping, isometrics or a light javorek complex, and dynamic stretching. I then work a full day doing hard manual labour, and go straight to training after work mon to thurs, and stretch again before bed every evening. I take regular back off weeks during training, and the only supplememt that I ever use is glutamine to help me with recovery during times of particularly intense training.

I'm not saying that you have to live like a monk, but if you look after your body by eating right, sleeping right and training right, you will find that you will have more energy than any stimulant will ever give you... just ask Bernard Hopkins!
