A lot of people want to fight the best. That doesn't mean that they don't fight hand picked oppnents as well. If you disagree that Gomez and Jennings were cherry picked, that's fine. However, if you do agree that they were cherry picked opponents, then I'm not sure what exactly your argument is here.

cotto is the toughtest fight for floyd mayweather, against pacquiao he can stick to his boxing and catch pacquiao with his speed and hurt him with his power. pacquiao is a very busy fighter but like marquez showed he can be outboxed and with mayweather skills i think stylistically he has way too much for pacquiao to control.

miguel cotto is very simialar to jose luis castillo, who gave mayweather his toughest fight. cotto is a better all round boxer than pacquiao, and i think cotto has the brains and the power to hurt mayweather. he picks his punches better than pacquiao, every punch for cotto means something. if cotto can get in and fight mayweather on the inside then he has the style to hurt mayweather with the body punches and he could KO him with one shot late in a fight.

one thing that these two pressure fighters do better than any other pressure fighter is use the angles very well. in his first fight against mayweather, castillo came in from angles and got some good punches off, wheras corrales and hatton were walking onto punches.

if i was mayweather the last person i would want to fight is miguel cotto.

I don't think Mayweather would agree. He's a cocky git. He probably thinks he'd box circles around Cotto.

In other words, Gomez was a hand picked opponent designed to make Cotto look good. Am I wrong here? And Urkal was a top 10 fighter by default. He beat no one of note at 147. Please do not try to insult people's intellegence by rattling off his Ring Magazine ranking like that made him an elite Welter. He was not an elite Welter. Urkal was a solid JWW, who was aging and did nothing at WW. Cotto wouldn't have had to fight him had his team not paid off Urkal in order leap frog him and fight for a vacant title; a title shot that he did not earn but rather bought.

I made mention of him cherry picking a C level opponent for a vacant title. Was Jennings not cherry picked? Was he not a C level opponent? Was the fight not for a vacant title?

You can make all the excuses you want, it really doesn't matter. If you're fine with simply excusing some of these farce fights and simply want to put all the blame on the promoter, that's fine. It's funny how it's all Arum's doing when Cotto fights some set-up, yet Cotto gets all the credit when he fights someone like Margo. I guess you all ignore that the Margo fight would've never happen had Arum not basically forced it.

I did admire that he wanted to fight a bigger name. But I now question the sincerity of his words. Regardless, it doesn't matter. Jennings was still a cherry picked opponent and that fight was still a farce.

What I wrote was that Jennings was a cherry picked opponent. That much can't really be argued. I find it pretty useless to try to assign blame as to who is at fault for the cherry picking.

Again, it was stated that Jennings and Gomez were cherry picked opponents. Do you not agree with this? There are plenty of fighters who have taken on better opposition than Cotto and still get labeled as cherry pickers.

I agree with you saying that that Gomez and Jennings were handpicked tune-up fights for Cotto, but calling them "cherry-picked" is saying it as if he has been handed easy fights his entire career. Everyone needs a break now and then. His career won't last very long if he only fights Mosley, Margarito, Judah's of the world. Don't talk about him as if he is RJJ! Maywether is the "cherry picker", he fights only smaller beatable guys! The most dangerous guy Mayweather has been in with in the past 6 years was Zab, and all knew he would break him down! Even pacquiao is a small guy that we all know down deep that Floyd can beat.

I rather see floyd fight JMM then Pac Man and the winner of mosley cotto 2 this fight should be in order mosley margarito if not mosely. he is gonna have to fight the smaller men first then move up to mosley and cotto and not mix match because jumping from weight divisions ins gonna be ruff on his body I dont wanna see hatton and floyd he already has hatton under his belt.

Saying Gomez and Jennings were cherry picked is the same as saying Cotto has been handed easy fights his entire career? I donn't get the logic here.

This part is what kills me about Cotto fans. Now you just mentioned Judah as one of Cotto's tough fights, then you turn around and say Mayweather is a cherry picker. Cotto fought Zab after Mayweather beat his ass and after Zab was basically out for a year. Mayweather only fights smaller guys, yet he went up to 154 to fight Oscar? Let me also remind you that Cotto was begging for a fight with Oscar fight after Floyd already beat him. Let's also not forget that Oscar wasn't weight drained in that fight and was competing at about the same level as the Mosley that Cotto beat. You'll kill Mayweather for fighting Hatton, yet you'll conveniently leave out that Cotto has publically stated that he wants to fight the winner of Pac/Hatton(Again, trying to snack on Mayweather leftovers)

Zab is more dangerous than Oscar at 154? That's laughable. Hatton actually presented Floyd more challenges than Zab. You're only bringing up Zab because that's probably Cotto's second best win in his entire career. Zab isn't even Mayweather's second best win in the last two years(you could even argue Baldo was a better win seeing as how he beat Zab)

So now Floyd is being criticised for being too good? Let me let you in on a little secret, most observers don't believe Cotto can beat Mayweather. I guess Cotto would be a cherry picked opponent as well according to you.

floyd is the ultimate protected manufactured fraud fighter sold to the public as a superstar. he's good but he aint the real mccoy. floyd was very good at super feather and LW but who cares? At welterweight it's all smoke and mirrors, hop skipping from one carefully selected safe fight to the next, with a fake retirement or sojourn to pro wrestling here and there to ensure maximum security.

Cotto is the real mccoy. the epitome of what a champion is and should be, willing and actually eager to fight the best. and floyd knows this and secretly fears that kind of confdience and bravery and determination to win. thus we will never see that fight.

the fact is floyd only selects opponents he knows for certain he can beat. if there's any doubt whatsoever, floyd ducks and dodges, like Bob Arum said, he's a "psychological coward."

I agree with you except the part about PBF-Pac. That would be the biggest fight in boxing and has to be made to settle fighter of the decade. After that fight PBF-Cotto would be my choice as well providing Cotto gets by Clottey.

I see wee have another guy who is hooked on the Cotto Kool-Aid. Cotto's second best win was against a guy that Mayweather trashed a year earlier. Cotto's best win was against a 36 year old fighter who needed to take performance enhancing drugs just to get a controversial decision over a guy that Floyd went up in weight to fight and was outweighed by at least 10 lbs. on fight night. Despite this, Floyd is the coward who only fights safe fights and Cotto is the warrior who takes on anyone. That's simply amazing. It's simply amazing that Cotto can have 2 of his last 3 fights against C level fighters and get labeled as a guy who fights anyone. Most of you Kool-Aid drinking Cotto fans would probably label Malignaggi as one of Cotto's so called dangerous opponents.

Trust me when I tell you that Cotto fits your description as an ultra protected, manufactured fraud much more closely than Mayweather. Why do you think he was a heavy favorite over Margo and then got destroyed? That only happens to overhyped fighters. Hell, Cotto was almost knocked out by a last minute B level replacement in the form of Ricardo Torres. What the hell do you think would happen to Torres if he fought Floyd? He would lose every round and get stopped, that's what would happen.

You're aware that PBF started his career at 130 aren't you? He's moved up from 130-154 and won titles in every class he's been in that's why he's was P4P #1 for years.:deal WTF are you talking about? Moving to MW would be insane he's not even a legit WW.:patsch

Because everyone deep down knows PBF would school Cotto, so the hypothetical match-up is boring.
