The less that Mikkel Kessler accomplishes, the less credit Joe Calzaghe will receive historically.

Especially since Lacy fell off the face of the earth.

Kessler has been reduced to a measuring stick of Calzaghe's greatness.

He needs to fight someone with a pulse. Otherwise his career is turning out to be dissapointing IMO.

That top 10 never existed at the same time. Watson had ONE fight at SMW and Benn, Collins and Toney (probably amongst others,) weren't at the weight at that time, the 3 of them were still at Middleweight. That 10 is pretty much a who's who of SMW fighters since the weight was created and you might as well put Calzaghe on it too.

Speaking of which, where would you put Calzaghe in the all time SMW ratings, a lot of people would have him #1 and Kessler did give him a good fight.

I'd like to see him fight some names as much as the next man but saying he's just a handsome marketable guy who wouldn't have made a top 10 that could never have existed is a bit silly.

He needs to get away from Palle. He should be getting big fights with Bute,Taylor or Froch not fighting against the likes of Haussler.

Yeah but other than those two/three there aren't many fights out there at SMW for him. If Mundine keeps fighting at the weight which is unlikely, it's even less likely he'd fight Kessler. He's already beat Andrade convincingly, if he beats Balzsay then he won't get any credit and even Bute has said he isn't ready for Kessler yet.

Probably his best chance of getting in a good match up is if Pavlik or Abraham move up to SMW and that's not certain to happen any time soon.

Even if got away from this **** with Palle, the chances are he'd still have to fight bums more often than not.

I know its not great but his record isnt that bad - compare it to froch who is a year older ( i tihnk)
    - he challenged and put up a good fight against JC - he had some great success early/mid rounds
    - he went to australia and beat Mundine
    - he beat undefeated fighters - andrade and sartisan in title fights
    - ko win over beyer

like i said it isnt briliant by any stretch of the imagination - and should be a whole lot better - its not awful!

if he cant get a big name - i reckon a unification (of sorts) with bika is the way to go

I agree, his record is better than people make out. The only thing missing really is a big name American or at least a win over someone who would be covered by the American networks.

Bika probably would be the best fight out there or him out of who he'd be likely to get at SMW but I don't think he's really any better than who Kessler's already beat.

I don't know what the **** Bute's playing at saying he doesn't want Kessler yet, it's not like he's got loads of good options either and he's 29 and not getting younger. Hopefully his win over Zuniga will give him a bit more heart. It's a travesty that someone can be called a world champ while openly saying he's not up for fighting someone at his own weight.
