Ok, a bit of a recurring idea here on this thread, but one that must be brought up again. The standard of commentary on RTE. Its dreadful. Jimmy Magee is too far off the pace and Dave Boy McAuley seems content to shout OOOOOOHHH every time something happens rather than commentate properly. Surely they can find some other people for the job!!! Michael Corcoran was doing the commentating for the rugby match on the radio, he was up to speed and more animated than I've heard a commentator in a long time. This is the standard our boxing coverage should be at. At the very least they should be able to tell the difference between the referee calling no knockdown and actually stopping the fight. Even watching Lee or Duddy RTE fights on youtube is ruined by the OOOOOHs and the insanely stupid Magee-isms.

McAuley isn't too bad generally, that OOOH thing just really gets on my nerves. Ruins rewatching round 11.

Did/Will itv4 be showing it? they showed the Faccio fight. It would be interesting to hear an unbiased (ish) commentary that wasn't brutal. Even if Duke McKenzie is bound to have said 'his legs have gone Jim' about 400 times.

RTE is a job for life. No matter how untalented (and I'm not saying Magee didn't have good days, they might have been before my time) you are they stick by you. Look at the many untalented wankers with great jobs in all aspects of RTE.

McAuley has some pretty good insights. The ohhhh thing is annoying. I actually think thats the boxing fan in him. But his observations aren't bad. Any other station would send McAuley on a finishing course on how to improve his commentary. You can bet your life RTE don't/won't bother.

Yeah Ardy both of the guys I was rooting for lost. Duran by narrow decision to Robbie Sims and McGuigan in shocking fashion to Cruz. The fights were entertaining though.

There is a Martin Rogan thread on the general forum where someone mentioned a possible matchup between Rogan and Chris Arreola this summer. This of course depends on if Rogan beats Sprott and Arreola beats Jameel McCline early next month. If Rogan wins these then a title shot should be on the horizon. It could be an exciting year.
