"your full of **** ray didn't have the speed or ring smarts of floyd. flloyd is way underrated due to his brashnes" dave82/hellraiser. can you please stick this floyd fanboy with a million needles. ****, as much as I am an admirer of pbf skills, this guy takes the cake. is this guy 8 years old or something.
thats what iv been tryin to tell people. hes not the same fighter at 147. i dont understand why he would be compared to proven atgs at that weightclass. i think of leonard as a super floyd. physically superior in every way, with all the smarts to go along with it.
no he is overrated because of his brashness:deal 130-135, he is great, above that the conversation shouldnt even take place.
I think Sugar Ray stops him. Leonard is probably the best fighter I've ever seen. Mayweather has a solid chin and I've never seen him seriously hurt but Leonard was one of the greatest combination punchers of all time with some serious pop at 147. Mayweather didn't use enough lateral movement to keep someone like Leonard off balance at Welter, the smaller Mayweather being a counterpuncher couldn't lay back and try to counter the bigger and very precise Leonard. It just would not work. Even if he did use movement I can't think of a single offensive department that Mayweather was superior to Leonard. Leonard by late stoppage or decision.
Just like what happened when Tommy Hearns landed the right on him in at 147...oh hang on thats right... Mayweather would suffer the same fate as his dad did at the hands of Sugar Ray Leonard, TKO in the mid to late rounds.
That works for me. After reading this thread, what I'm pretty sure of is that those who think Mayweather would win, are on average, significantly younger than those who think Leonard would win. Having seen them both I think SRL would win easier than many expect, he was simply the complete package at WW. And regarding PBF's comments about SRL loosing to a lightweight, I'd bet money that PBF would suffer the same result, in fact, I highly doubt he'd last the distance against someone like Duran who would force PBF to do something he's not use to doing..which is fighting in the trenches and facing constant pressure and taking numerous body punches. PBF's a great fighter, I wouldn't call him an ATG because to me an ATG does something PBF hasn't done yet, which is fight, not box, but actually fight, and not retiring when your 30 but fighting the Cotto's of the division, that's something both SRL or Duran would have done, win or loose, they would have fought!!!!!
I agree, I also think Leonard would beat Floyd(as would Duran and Whitaker at lightweight and at welterweight). I also don't consider Mayweather an all time great for another reason that isn't entirely his fault. He was in an era in which he could carefully pick opponents an still become a three time champion, an era where he could be the lb4lb king while still not the best fighter in his own weight class(147lbs)
Leonard is on a different level to Floyd, his offensive superiority would be too much for Floyd. It wouldn't be that close.
