Did you see Barrera Vs. Kennedy McKinney? It was fight of the year and one of the best fights I have ever seen!
right on man, that fight it often referenced as a statistic, but not very often is it spoken of in the same breath as the other "best of" fights in barrera's career. i am glad you zeroed in on that one. that was back in 96, when barrera was probably nearing his peak. punches thrown and loogies hocked at press conferences...man barrera was fired up for that one. so t'd off in fact that he started faster in that fight than i have ever seen him at any other point in his career, even against opponents whose only option was to take punishment and be ko'd. and he came out like that against a terrific, seasoned, accurate, quick technical fighter in a world title fight. barrera floored in the late rounds, then comes right back and drops mckinney like half a dozen times before the fight is stopped. the ring boiled that night. good call bringing that one back up.
Thanks. One Hell of a war. I remember when Barrera fought at the forum, he was very young, great body puncher and a true warrior, never in a dull fight. I wish more fans could see that fight.
That's probably my favorite Barrera fight. I liked it better than the first Morales fight. Maybe it wasn't quite as great as that one, but it wasn't far behind in action and skill, and it had the more clear and definitive ending. A great fight ending in a KO/TKO adds a little extra to it. That dramatic, conclusive finish.
To be fair to Marco, he wasn't really mean per se... he just didn't talk trash to hype fights. When the other fighter would talk trash he would just bide his time and slug him as soon as he got close enough. Hitting Pac on the break was because it was a shitty break and he already had that punch launched when the ref came in with a weak ass one handed break, and he did what he did to Hamed because Hamed had mocked a friend of his when Hamed beat him. The thing with JMM was because Nady came in very late. Marco's not a bad guy, but he doesn't take any **** AT ALL and he has a short fuse in the ring as well.
haha. people go around wasting dave chapelle's material on repetitive, nonspecific subject matter. i think you have found "the right time" to invoke the rick james couch-stomp catchphrase.
Can't believe the ref called a slip on that JMM KD....even how many times i rewatch it, i just can't see where the slip happened!!! Anyway, we need more fighters like barrera, he always bring excitement in the ring..!!!
