How does a prime Vargas fair against the 81 Leonard?

Leonard would destroy him. I personally think Vargas is one of the most overrated fighters of the last generation. Very good, but not great.

i think potential wise Vargas isnt far off Leonard but he lacked dedication and that thing that make sthe champion stand out form the contender

Leonard TKO10 in a pretty decent but 1 sided fight

leonard beats him worst than trinidad did because he didn't take nearly as many punches. He tko's vargas inside of 10.

vargas was very talented. he just never made full use of it

i think leonard outscores in an entertaining competitive bout but a srl win would never be in doubt

This would be as horiffic as death by 'stoning' in public.

Leonard would beat him handily. I say he stops him in the mid to late rounds. Vargas was determined and all, but he'd get caught too often, and Leonard was a great finisher. Vargas could show good defensive skills at times, but he was no slickster, and he would get hit. And throughout his career, he showed vulnerability to the left hook. People don't often talk about Leonard's left hook like they do others like Trinidad, DLH, Tua, etc....but it was a hell of a punch.

And no, Vargas was nowhere near as talented as Leonard was. Leonard was uber-talented.

As said above, gulf in class, Leonard is just the better fighter and would stop Vargas late.

I have a serious question for you, why do you tend to make threads where you pit two different level of fighters against each other and when someone picks the lower level fighter you quote them to laugh or ridicule them. What's the point of the thread if you know who the majority is going to choose?

This sounds like the Camacho/Diaz matchup:-:)roll:

But what the hell, ill give my opinion

I think Vargas would be more competetive than the most of the posts are giving him credit for. Id say Vargas is competetive early on but eventually Leonard pulls ahead scores a knockdown arount the 8th. Vargas fights his heart out in the 9th but his taking a beating. Leonard finishes him off in the 10th.
