Is motivation severely under-rated in judging fights?

We always look at skills, achievements and past performance. But what about motivation?

ie: Joe Calzaghe looking bad against weak opponents because he had no desire to train?

Would a MOTIVATED Roy Jones Jr. have been KO'ed by Glen Johnson?

So when we say "Fighter A SHOULD win based on his skills/talent/etc" we never really factor in when a guy DOES NOT care.

What has that got to do with judging a fight? If a guy shows up half arsed, then he's half arsed. That's it.

You can analyze a fighter's strengths/weakness all day. But if he doesn't train, that analysis is useless.

motivation is everything. But how would you be able to look inside a man's heart and look to see if he's motivated before picking a winner? Not to mention most world class boxers are motivated each and every time they step in the ring, they know how important it is.

We cannot use motivation to judge incoming fight nor past fights . . . because we can only guess how motivated the fighters are in their past fight or scheduled fights. :D
