If Carl Froch manages to beat Jermain Taylor, it will be a huge achievement!

In the last couple of weeks, ESB has turned against Froch nuthuggers who talk Taylor down and say stuff like "Pascal would KO Taylor", or "Pascal would beat Bute silly", or "Froch is the best SMW in the world so of course he'll beat Taylor", or "Froch's better than Pavlik in all aspects, and he's bigger than him too, so of course he'll beat Taylor", or "Taylor is an overrated hype-job who has no chance against Froch", etc., etc., ...

...but just because a bunch of silly fanboys are acting as if a win over Taylor would mean next to nothing for Froch, it doesn't mean the rest of us should.

In fact, a win over Taylor would finally prove that Froch was a world class fighter and that he'd have a decent chance against anyone out there, 175 lbs and under, just like Bute and Kessler, say.

...Conversely, a loss to Taylor for Froch would not make him an Euro-bum. Jermain Taylor is a very good fighter and losing to him is nothing to be ashamed of, even for a world class fighter.

In fact, if Taylor performs very well and Froch makes it competitive and loses, he could still prove himself as a world class fighter...he could still impress us...he could still go up in the rankings, even if he loses.

(This is a very good risk/reward fight for Froch...)

So...let's not prepare to write Froch off and **** on him from a very great height if he loses, just because of his nutty fans and just because of his statements in the press, etc. Boxing is a business and some fighters just sell themselves like that. What really matters is not his personality either but what he does in the ring. The fact that he decided to go for Taylor in the USA instead of say, Ward and Dirrell in Nottingham (he could have gone to pursebids to force the fight to be made in Nottingham and then Taylor would have just reliquished his number one challenger status) is something that makes good business sense from a risk/reward point of view, true, especially because time is running out for Froch, and he's getting a bit desperate, but it's still impressive!

I'm not fussed over Taylor at all, despite being the man at 160 a while back.
Beating Hopkins made him, losing to Hopkins broke Pavlik a bit. Funny old game!

Good post btw I agree.Froch is far better than people give him credit for.He has some good tools.People who say he is a Eurobum....how many times have you seen him box??He just hasn't had the exposure stateside to prove himself over there with American fans.

Thats why he is taking this fight. He wants to fight the best and prove who is the best yet people still knock him saying he is looking to cash out!Bollocks!Boxing needs more champions like this who're willing to put it all on the line in their first defence, away from home and against the number one contender

I think Taylor's a bit overrated, Froch a bit underrated. I pick Froch in this one, Taylor won't be able to hurt him the reverse isn't true.

Anyone who feels this fight will be a walkover/easy for Taylor is in for a rude awakening. This will be a close fight, Froch is fired up for this bigtime.

If you believe it will be a walkover then you obviously either A) Have seen Froch fight once or Twice or B) Haven't seen him at all.

WIth all due respect to the op, who makes many valid points.

How can Americans really throw around the term "Eurobum" without seeing how obnoxious and arrogant it is. Completely jingoistic with a suggestion of xenophobia.

It's a terrible phrase and it really should be dropped. I know that most decent, rational Americans (which most Americans are) dislike the term as much as Europeans and see it as redundant as it really is.

It's hard to really say that Froch is underrated as of yet. I think he definitely is by most Americans (sorry about the "Americans" thing again) but as my above post suggests, Americans will completely underrate European boxers, even when they prove their worth.

That said, some Brit/Euro boxers will rate him too highly too soon.

The fact is, there isn't yet enough on Froch to over or under rate him. He proved a hell of a lot against Pascal but it will be the Taylor fight and the one after which will give us firm ground to base an opinion of him from.

I like Froch's style , he is the type of boxer I generally enjoy to watch the most. If he can beat Taylor (especially by KO) I would be very impressed and immediately jump on the bandwagon... at this point though, I don't think he will win.

Your opinions on Boxers seem to change quiet often Decebal. Either way a good post all the same.

Personally I believe Froch will do a number on Taylor and make Pavlik in turn seem ordinary. I have my reasons for this & I would post them but stylistic observations go out the window on this site in favour of bias.

Whatever happened I believe Carl will not get the respect he deserves even if he KO's Taylor - the standard "Taylor wasn't that good anyway" line will be used as has been the case forever on here.

You can try and spin it any way you want to, but it won't win you much in terms of credibility...:-(

You weren't agreeing with my post. You were putting a spin on my post to make it boomerang back into my face.
