Maloney and Munroes comments on Dunne/Peters

The card for the next Dunne fight should be

Dunne -v- Poonswat
Munroe -v- Cordoba
Healy -v- Magee

i really hope this fight gets made it makes sense for everyone

if dunne gets a voluntary before a big defence it has to be munroe, no one else fits the bill, i know martinez would be easier to sell in ireland but munroe is known more than people think over here, the average joe boxing fans knows munroe through him beating kiko twice

the whole ireland v england thing will sell as it does, maloney will stirr it up and **** people off to sell the fight even better

dunne munroe O2 lets make it happen,, munroe is ranked 3rd by the wba so its all good and i think its a tough test but dunne would be the favourite, as for bernard boxing rings around munroe that just aint gonna happen, munroe will be a tough challenge and if dunne cant get motivated for munroe i would advise him not to take the fight

 

mccullough fight wont happen he is no where near the wba top 15, peters doesnt have the pull to get him ranked

Some of the bullshitting on this thread is beyond belief!

All of a sudden Bernard Dunne is a superstar!

The fight should happen, end of story...... regardless of venue, ££££ or whatever. Munroe has a legitimate title, Dunne doesn't (sorry guys)...... he ought to welcome a chance to regain the European title.

 

Why is that not going to happen? Dunne is good enough to beat Munroe quite convincingly, unless he has an off night.
Of course Munroe could surprise me by winning, anything can happen in boxing but he would have to show better form than he has in recent fights and Dunne would be the favourite surely.
I don't know whether this fight is even possible timing wise.
Dunne should be out for at least 5 months with the severity of the cuts he sustained in the Cordoba fight, he also needs time to recuperate properly after such a gruelling training camp and fight, the last thing he should do is risk taking a voluntary with Munroe or anyone else before the cut has fully healed. You will notice Dunne only started to get in trouble in the Cordoba fight when he got cut, he would have not been so easy to hit in that 5th round if weren't for the cut compromising his sight.
By the time Dunne is ready to fight again, the mandatory challenger, probably Kratingdaenggym, would be knocking on the door as Dunne has 7 months to make his mandatory defense of the title.

I think the window for this fight has been and gone.
Munroe should have taken this fight when Peters and Dunne were practically begging for it, but he didn't.

Dunne should take a couple of months off and begin his training camp in June, then fight Kratingdaenggym at the end of August maybe. Should he come through that fight, he should then go for Caballero.
He's not getting any younger let's face it, I think the time has come to stop messing around with European level competition. If he really wants to keep moving upwards, this would be the best route in my opinion.

Munroe is fighting for the commonwealth title in May btw, probably against Kenyan Sande Otiene. He should defend his European title against Maludrottu after that and if by that time Dunne still has his belt (or belts hopefully!), then maybe Peters and Maloney can talk!

 

Ah but Dunne has beat a world class boxer whereas Munroe has not even come close (sorry Beeston!)

 

Lets not get carried away.

It was great result for Dunne, but SBW is probably the deepest division in boxing and there are several fighters near the top who I would say would be out of Dunne's league.

I couldn't see Dunne lasting the full 12 against Marquez, Vasquez, Lopez or Gonzalez (dependant on what versions of Vasquez and Marquez finally appear); Caballero is a stylistic nightmare for him, and Molitor would probably be too saavy and would take a decision victory. Even a fight with a crude banger like Ponce de Leon would be a hard one to call.

We have to take into account that Cordoba has now had four fights outside Panama and has not won any of them (although he was never KO'd in the other three); ally this to the fact that he has campaigned below SBW for nearly his whole career. It was a great victory for Dunne, but there are extenuating circumstances that can be used to argue that Cordoba may not have brought his A-game, and that Dunne has not all of a sudden leapt up onto the elite tier.

A fight between Dunne and Munroe would be no gimme for Bernard; its an intriguing fight on paper and one I'd like to see. Of course I would favour Dunne, but I imagine it would be a close and competitive fight.

Peters might feel that an easy voluntary defence would be first up for Dunne after such a war last time out, so we may not know who his next "big" opponent will be for quite a while.

 

It might seem like I'm getting carried away but I have thought Dunne was world class for a long time, not just based on the Cordoba performance. He just needed to iron out some flaws, he has gone some way to doing this and will keep improving with his new found focus, extra strength training, etc
Granted Vasquez, Marquez and Caballero are on another level, but I just think Dunne should go for the bigger fights while he can and come down to European level should he lose to the big guns.

I don't doubt a fight with Munroe would be competitive, however it woud be like a step back over old ground imo.

Onwards and upwards, that's what I say.

 

Maloney must have known the reaction he'd get, doesn't really want the fight after seeing what Dunne's made of and just threw out an offer he knew would be rejected to save face.
Personally, I would like to see the fight happen - my only reservations are in regards to Maloney's cheek. I want to see Bernard move on to bigger and better things and a fight with Munroe would set him up nicely for bigger things across the pond. If it does it will be in Dublin, not one of Maloney's school halls.

 

The Ice Arena in Nottingham holds 6000...... not exactly a school hall!

I think £150k is a realistic offer taking into account the current economic climate and the fact that whilst both are fairly well known, neither are exactly HUGE draws, are they?

Also the fact that the title isn't really a WORLD title, more of an INTERIM one......

Munroe is in the top 10 with each of the other alphabets, so if Dunne rejects and gets a better offer (unlikely to get a better one IMO) there are options for Rendall here...... more defences of the EBU..... a slot on the card of Hatton's next fight (Ricky and Maloney are pals) before taking on somebody else.

If and its a big if , Dunne could beat Munroe then I would personally apologise to you for my comments which you take offence at .... otherwise if your so sure Dunne will win what price would you give me on Munroe ? ... i know the Irish like a punt

I suppose the term "world class" is subjective anyway; it can really depend on the division the fighter is in. SBW is just so damn deep at the moment that it is gonna be hard for Dunne to fight his way to the top. Of course Lopez and Caballero could move up, and Vasquez and Marquez could come back and look shot; then the picture would look a lot more bright for Bernard.

I would say an easy defence for Dunne first up, then a fight with either Munroe or Martinez (victories in either would have their plus points), then after that........well, see how the picture looks and move him up accordingly. I suppose a fight with Caballero is an easy one to make, since Dunne would be his mandatory after winning the "ordinary" version of the WBA belt.

 

By all means Munroe should go out there and win himself a "real" world title. No one is saying he dosen't have options.
Dunne can get more than £150,000 in Dublin, a lot more.
I don't think you get how popular he is over here, he is on every talk show imaginable and is a genuine household name. Along with all his fans I think a few thousand people who don't particularly like Dunne would go to see him fight in the hopes that he would get knocked! Such is the way some Irish peoples minds work!
