Sorry if this has already been posted:

The hand wraps worn by Antonio Margarito before his fight against Shane Mosley on Jan. 24 in Los Angeles contained calcium and sulfur, two ingredients of plaster of Paris, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The Times cited a report from a California Department of Justice laboratory dated March 19.

The wraps were confiscated by the California State Athletic Commission after Mosley’s trainer, Naazim Richardson, noticed in Margarito’s dressing room before the fight that the gauze pads inserted into the hand wraps were unusually hard.

Margarito, using legal pads, was knocked out by Mosley in the ninth round. The Mexican fighter and his trainer, Javier Capetillo, then had their licenses revoked for at least one year at a California commission hearing on Feb. 10.

“It would’ve been crazy if they’d come back with anything different,” Richardson said of the findings. “I know for a fact the pads had something in them. I was there. I was there and a commissioner was there. So, no, this isn’t a surprise.”

Karen Chappelle, the attorney who presented the state’s case at the hearing, also wasn’t surprised.

"The commission's decision appears to be supported by that report," Chappelle told the Times. "The only things that are allowed in hand wraps are gauze and tape and those items aren't gauze and tape."

Neither Margarito nor Capetillo have appealed the revocation of their licenses in California, which in effect means they can’t take part in a fight anywhere in the United States.

I don't see how anyone can defend Margarito at this point.

Well, is there any evidence to suggest there is no doubt Margarito knew what they were putting in his wraps? I mean, assuming he didn't look away, closing his eyes, etc., assuming he watched his hands being wrapped, is it possible that he might not have realised what his coach was doing?:think

Lennox lewis said how he would have noticed anything different in his gloves or wraps so i suspect most boxers could tell if their wraps were different. They would feal different if you had something else in the wraps/gloves other than what is standard.

I guess that's the only tack the defenders can take at this point. OJ had a better case.

I am not sure exactly what is supposed to have happened. If the gauze, say, was pretreated, and was just added to the rest of the gauze, it might not have aroused Margarito's suspicion. If on the other hand they took some powders and added them to the gauze whilst wrapping his gloves, well, his case isn't very strong...

What do you think? Is is possible that Margarito would not have realised what they were doing?

decebel, come on surely your clutching at straws now. there were only one persons hands being wrapped.fact. marg's team came out after and were qouted as saying there is no problem we use this all the time. fact. he wraps his hands for sparring and nearly 40 professional fights and he doesnt know how to wrap hands?

his camp made a mistake by coming out straight away and admitted there was something different about the wraps but nothing big in their opinions. therefore he has no defence based on this. guilty of having the wrong type of wrap from the outset. the investigation was based upon the content of those wraps, which he has been found guilty.

id grown to love antonio for having that dog in him, being so tough and being the underdog his whole life he has shamed himself and mexico

I am only trying to find out whether there is a chance Margarito himself could have not understood what they were doing to him. There can be no question whether he is guilty or not, according to the rules, since he is responsible for the actions of his corner. But did he himself collude in this cheating attempt, or not?
