We will see our over-hyped young fighter Yuriorkis Gamboa take on Chris John (IF Gamboa beats Rojas next month).

How would you see this play out?

Dragon John would catch Gamboa pulling straight back with his hands down and make him do the Judah dance..

Main proplem for John and makes the prediction tough is that the Indonesian boxer has little power to get Gamboa's respect, and you don't want to let the Cuban come inside and land his bombs.

Yuri never really seems to go out with a plan and leaves himself open for counters, something he doesn't care to correct, and Chris happens to be a master counter-puncher, so on points, it has to be John, who also has a very good jab and decent speed (just decent compared to Gamboa, who's awesomely fast). The way the much shorter Gamboa approaches fights is not the way to beat John, you have to be smart and very alert going in. But if he can get inside, he can stop anyone, including the excellent Indonesian.

Chris John being " featherfisted " is one of the biggest misconception on this forum..

He's no killer, but he's far from featherfisted...

Malignaggi is what u call featherfisted... JOhn's power is respectable and it's enough to keep his opponents honest.

    What freakin ''bombs''?! :blood

I just saw his fight against Darling Jimenez, and the way Gamboa was throwing those punches they WEREN'T hurting Jimenez, he just kept taunting Gamboa.

Don't get me wrong, i don't hate Gamboa, he has good power, but against fighters with good chins his ''bombs'' won't have any effect.

He hurt his hand in the Jimenez fight and threw mostly arm punches after that.

He hurt his hand rather early in that fight. And he still had enough power to **** up Jiminez and lump his face up all bad.

John is a tremendous fighter with a lot of amazing defensive qualities. That said, John's best defensive capabilities leave him open for Gamboa's best asset. Sometimes Chris John gets very confident and leaves himself open as bait. The problem is he got tagged against Rocky Juarez because way too often he allowed himself to get caught. He gets too cocky and thus lesser fighters (like Rocky Juarez) are able to score effectively.

If he does that against a faster and stronger Gamboa, it will not be a pleasant experience for The Dragon. If Chris John stays cautious and uses his superior defensive ability to toy with the all too amateurish Gamboa he'll win.

Nobody used the term "featherfisted" until you came up with it. What I've said is that he doesn't have the power to get Gamboa's respect and make him think twice before moving in. Significantly bigger punchers couldn't get Gamboa's respect despite knocking him down, and most of them ended up on the canvas. Now John is 4 levels better than anyone Gamboa has ever faced. But not speaking about quality but about styles, John doesn't like fighting on the inside and doesn't have the one punch power to stop Gamboa getting inside, at least in my opinion. If he had, I'd be a much easier fight to pick, that's all I'm saying. John still should be favored.

my first impulse is to disagree only slightly and say that john cruises to an easy decision catching gamboa pulling straight back with straight right hands all night. john throws crisp, controlled shots, but not judah dance chin music like tszyu supplied. however, gamboa has appeared shockingly easy to hit against everyone and easy to hurt against jiminez, dejesus and ramirez...none of them one punch ko threats in any serious way. so, maybe you're right, after eating john's punches while retreating for four or five rounds, gamboa might well crumble...and john knows how to pick, place and sit down on his punches when he has a vulnerable fighter hurt.

i'm with you on that. rojas, himself, took one heck of a beating from john, but rojas is a really durable fighter who is in it to last every time the bell rings. rojas is no technical wizard or speedster, but he stays on his man and fires consistent, hard, clean shots as long as he's in there. i think he might well get over on gamboa--who has actually looked less accurate and more prone to fight in bursts and then take time off in recent fights as he has stepped up the level of opposition.

Against Jiminez it was the equilibrium punch...against Dejesus it was a straight up elbow that knocked him down.

Easy to hit? Certainly...but let's not make it sound like he's weak chinned or shaky on his feet. When he got up from those KD's he pretty much restored order.

i'll take the equilibrium punch against jiminez...gamboa was hurt, it semed, and not just off-balance. i am not so sure that dejesus landed an elbow. it looked to me, and, i admit, i only saw the fight once, that gamboa was hurt by a punch that landed, unintentionally, forearm-first and then got a slight push that sewed up the knockdown on a hurt gamboa. i don't want to say i am 100% certain until i review a video of the fight, but that was how it seemed to me.
