"Manny Pacquiao has always fought the right guys at the right time. He relies on his left hand and his punching power. But he lacks defense. His chin is always in the air. He doesn't have head movement, he has body movement. And he doesn't really try to block punches. His philosphy is a great defense is a great offense. He throws alot of punches, but he makes alot of mistakes." Kevin Kelley, The Ring Magazine, April 2009
kevin kelley must have been watching alot of pac's pre-oscar larios tapes. he should watch the current pacquiao.
Yeah, PAc isnt perfect fighter if you look at him technical. But we all make mistakes just like Kevin too.. This content is protected
hatton and pacquiao both make mistakes, no one can claim that they are technically perfect it's all about who makes less mistakes on the night and who can punish the other for their mistakes.
I don't know if he makes alot of mistakes, But he is not the unhittable superman ppl make him out to be on this forum. He looked very good against a limited Diaz and a shot DLH ...... but he is far from unbeatable and VERY hittable, his defense is not that good and at one point Hatton will have him where he wants him and we need to see what he does.... because if he keeps coming at hatton and plays him at his own game.... he will get dominated and lose
he does but he gets away with it so it doesnt really matter.theres been a lot of great fighters like roy jones and ali that made a lot of mistakes but few if any could take advantage of those mistakes.
manny isnt the beast, they make him out to be and with those words, kelley hit the nail on the head.. Its easy to look good, against cherrypicked opposition like diaz and shot to **** de la hoya
It sounds like Kelley is hating just a tad bit. First, everyone makes mistakes. Secondly, it is easy to dissect a fighter and say he does so many things wrong, but you have to also look at what he does right in order to get those wins. Pacquiao has been much more successful at doing what he does than many fighters. Every fighter uses the tools they have in the ring, its only natural. If they have a good chin, they may take some more punches than someone with no chin. If its speed, you better believe they will out speed their other opponent and won't slow down for anyone. If its power, they will use it to their advantage every chance they get. It is not as if Pacquiao is a crude unorthodox fighter with no technique that will crumble the first time he faces a technical fighter. We have seen him face more technical fighters in Barrera and Marquez and he held his own and still won.
Of course he does, but that is the way it is. It is far less risky to make mistakes in th smaller weight classes, so they typically discard defense a lot. Mayweather is an exception, and other than Floyd there are very few defensive good boxers in the smaller divisions.
Hatton doesnt have the style to beat him, chasing a guy in a straight line with his chin in the air and throwing one punch at a time isnt going to work against Pac. right now bellow 147 it will take a master boxer to beat Pac,someone that will make him pay for his mistakes like a Mayweather or JMM. not Hatton who is even more flawed than Pac.
