6'7" Buddy Baer was no chance for the Brown Bomber. Buddy had alot of power and knocked out several opponents, but was decked 3 times in the first round by Louis. People say the HW's today are just too big, but Louis, all 198 pounds of him, knocked out the 250 pound Baer.

Don't forget that these were also perhaps worst fighters to ever lace up gloves. Not so much Baer but Carnera was truly a trainwreck. Just an absolute bum.

No I don't suggest Klitschko's would be Joe but Vitali never lost 13 rounds to a lightheavyweight in a single fight and to suggest that Joe Louis would walk through Vitali as well is absurb.

Carnera was durable, and defeated the likes of Tommy Loughran fair and square. Whether you doubt his abilities or not, Carnera was a tough ******* and knew how to use his size to his advantages. Baer, on the other hand, in his first fight with Louis put the Bomber on the canvas, only to almost go out himself in round seven. Louis, was death in rematches, he destroyed Buddy Baer with ease.

Wladimir Klitschko has lost to men as these in Lamon Brewster and Ross Purritty, and Vitali has lost to such as Chris Byrd. While they may or may not have gotten better since then, isnt so much the question, but really, their title defenses are no more better than Louis' own. At least Louis fought champions in Conn, Schmeling, Lewis, and other profile fighters who were former or future world champions. Vitali's claim to fame is being Lennox Lewis's last opponent more or less, and Wladimir is up to face David Haye because there is no real opponents left at HW.

I'll laugh my ass off if Haye manages an upset victory over Wladimir, and you can choke on your own words @ "Vitali never lost 13 rounds to a lightheavyweight". In fact, as mentioned before, he did worse, he won every round against a former middleweight only to give up.

Besides Baer and Carnera, Louis also beat Abe Simon who I think was about 6'5.

Unzcuden, Lou Nova, and Max Baer were all big boys at around 6'3.

If Louis fought today, he would be handling most of these guys just the same. The Klits would be terrific fights. Good thread, man. I don't think the Bomber ever fought anyone with the same combination of big and good as the Klits, but I wouldn't bet agaisnt his fast hands, big power, and figthing heart either.

Nova I believe was 6'4" or 6'5", and I believe Louis stopped him in five-six rounds. Abe Simon went the full route, but was stopped in a rematch. In all actuality, I think Louis has better luck with Vitali than he does Wladimir, because Vitali is the more engaging of the two giants. Whether Louis could knock Vitali out is a different argument altogether, but I believe he could score a decision. Wladimir would give Louis problems early on, but I think Louis could get inside fairly well, and could knock Wladimir out. Louis simply had too fast of hands for either man.

See this is what happens when you drink your own ****!!!!

Louis would have gotten Ko'd the Klits are bigger, stronger and more skilled than anyone Joe faced; The Klits would have beaten him with ease, Joe was to small, had concrete feet, and limited defense.

More skilled? Max Schmeling was a better boxer than either Klitschko. So was Billy Conn. Jersey Joe Walcott and Ezzard Charles were also better. Bigger? As stated before, Carnera, Baer, Simon and Nova were all near or were the same size as the Klitschko's. Stronger? Max Baer, Rocky Marciano ring a bell? Even if you dismiss those two, Louis fought a wide array of punchers such as Galento and Gudoy who may not have been world class punchers elite, but none of them were able to withstand Louis's barrage.

Had Louis ever faced someone with all those attributes put together? No. But Louis had two things going for him and that was a sharp mind and deadly accuracy. He could figure his opponents out, and when he caught you, you wasnt going to get away so easily. He made you pay the price for wanting to exchange with him. I'd say Louis would be the better man in a series of fights with the Klitschko's, than say a head to head one shot deal.

Louis would have beaten both Klitschko's in my opinion but would have a harder time defeating Vitali.

Joe Louis was also put on the deck by an aged arthritic Jim Braddock, who was largely a one-dimensional fighter. In fact, Max Baer and Jim Braddock mainly just had a dynamite right hand and little else.

I think Buddy Baer and Carnera are more like Kevin McBride and Tye Fields than the the Klitschkos. Just going by size for a comparison isn't a good idea IMO.

Louis would have some tough challenges in the cruiserweight division and he could beat many of the top heavyweights but I think he would be exposed by either of the Klitschkos. Remember Louis built his reputation vs The Bum of the Month Club.

Listen joe louis would not have beaten either of the Klitschko's. First of size...granted you all bring up carnara. Carnara is the julis long of this generation. Just size nothing else. Vitali and Wlad have skils and that would wear louis down. However it will take nothing away from what joe louis did for boxing as a whole and especially moral against nazi germany, but he would not beat the KO Bros'.
