The guy was a beast, and at 6'3 not exactly small even by todays standards..

he couldve put a MAJOR dent in most of todays fighters chins, and take a good shot too.
Id say today hed by top5 easily

The guy killed two men in the ring, so I think he could take out some of todays top 10 bums.

"Motivated" is the operative term. Even with pulling his punches and (according to his family) utter non-interest in boxing, preferring to pursue acting, he could still completely dominate world-class competition.

Properly motivated, he'd be one hell of a great modern heavyweight champion and spokesman for the sport! He'd have more unschooled female support than even prime Oscar did...

Big time! nice post.. people that made the cinderall movie failed to point out the only reason braddock won that fight was because Baer pulled his punches, and was unmotivated. and he had too much fun clownin..

Not only that but they shrunk Baer's Jewish star down to maybe two millimeters, hoping the viewing public wouldn't notice and have any possible reason to see any depth to his character... should have given him a handlebar mustache to twirl as he ties Renee Zellwiger to the railroad tracks. Terrible. That, and the cinematography of the boxing matches were even worse than "The Contender" tv show. :barf

Did you like the ending where it talks about how Braddock held on to the heavyweight title for two whole years before losing to Joe Louis? Never mind the fact that it was his first defense. Ugh.

Baer was an interesting case. The guy had lethal power in his right hand and an Iron Chin. I have seen a few of his fights on ESPN Classic and when he hit you with that right hand it was lights out.

I think he has the best chin in history, bar none. But Baer doesn't have enough technique to really make it count.

As the number of rounds got shorter, he would short out. He was the last man to get a winning decision over 20 i believe, and that's about right. He could be outboxed.

    Great power, great chin.

Was his Chin up there with LaMotta and Chuvalo etc.? I have seen parts of the Joe Louis vs Baer fight and he took several flush punches before getting stopped.

I read he gave up in that fight with Louis.. He smashed his face with an iron pipe when he was asked by a reporter if he was concerned about and opponents punch, and said if this cant hurt me, no man can.....GRANITE chin

No. The Klitschkos, esp Vitali could have exposed his weaknesses

What makes you think his management or the sanctioning bodies would put him with Vitali or Wlad? They'd put him up with Valuev and let us watch him administer a beat down even worse than Primo Carnera's!
