Moore possesed the perfect style for a smaller HW. He was a counterpuncher that could make 200+, and a finisher that was almost second to none in terms of getting after a hurt man.

Fighters describe Moore's feints as being "like wizardry", an sure enough, Moore offered his scar tissure - he underwent gall-bladder surgery- as an invitation to punch to the body. Not an invetation that EVERY fighter would fall for, but some did, and more would score KO's off a feint that didn't exsist on a counterpunch that was actually lead. He was a special man, that would have held a title if he were boxing in an era that carrie for. He often weighed in at over 200.

Anyway, here he is beating up 212lb contender Parker:

I think he would be a legitimate title holder in today's HW division..

I really need to get better tape of Moore. Other than his dismantling by Ali, the only recording I have of him is guest starring on the Red Skelton show. Well past time for me to rectify that...

He would be really small for todays boxing, but he would own light heavy and Cruiser.

    I totally agree Mcgrain....

Archie had the perfect style to take apart bigger men. He based alot of it off intelligence, finding out the bigger mans weakness and exploiting it. O and what a puncher archie was!

Archies record against men over 200lb? 22-1 with 19 kos!!! He knocked out a couple 6'4 225lb fighters that have never been stopped before. some of the big men he beat were very good like Baker and Valdez(Patterson and Marciano never gave these guys title shots) and most of them were pretty durable athletic guys....

checkout archie's one punch kayo over 6'2 212lb embrell davidson on youtube, quite the eye catcher

What an unreasonable post McGrain. Have you no respect for all of the advances made by sports medicine and physical conditioning programs?

    /sarcasm off

I'd pick Moore to beat -

    Valuev
    Moore
Haye (easiest fight for HW Moore)
    Peter
    Arreola
    Ibragimov

And that accounts for the ten apart from

    Povetkin

Looks good. I think Povetkin give Moore a tricky fight. After all, Johnson troubled Moore at 175 -but saying that this is the KO master with more than 100 fights against a fighter who doesn't have 50 - i pick Moore by decision over Povetkin.

    Who disagrees?

I'd give him a decent shot against Povetkin. Eddie Chambers was handily outslicking him before he either got tired or suffered a brain fart. Neither of which would happen to a prime Archie Moore.

And while the size mismatch would be extreme, I'd be very curious to see how Wlad would have dealt with that educated of feints. You don't need great power to put doubt into Wlad's mind, you just have to touch him consistently enough. Moore's head movement and ability to get inside could give Wlad fits, although of course getting by that jab would be a huge challenge.
