Ditto, I know its an uphill battle for Chris and most ofus want to see our champions built like Lennox Lewis or Evander Holyfield or (well Wlad Klitschko for that matter). But I'mgoing to open myself up to be made fun of majorly. I'm fat, and Iwanted to be a cheerleader in college (im male obviously) and I tried out against all these either skinny male tumblers or muscular male stunters, but I made the team 3 consecutive years and joked the entire time that i was "doing it for fat boys everywhere". There's a certain part of me that would love to see someone who has an eating problem become heavyweight champion of the world. And beyond that Chris is exciting as hell to watch and anyone who heard his post-fight interview after the Walker bout knows first hand he'd be a trip in the spotlight.

Let's not talk about Chins when it comes to David Haye because he can't even take punches from Cruiserweights much less Heavyweights.

Haye is all hype in the Heavyweight Division. Arreola has fought the better competition at Heavyweight by far.

We don't even know how Haye's power will carry to Heavyweight where he will be fighting guys that weigh 40 + pounds more than the people he was fighting at Cruiserweight.

I don't think it is bad at all. He had a knockdown against Walker where he was not even hurt he was alert and took a knee and an 8 count.

Compare that to David Haye who has been knocked down by former Super Middleweights. Haye's Chin is much worse than Arreola.

You always know how Chris Byrd's wife feels during a fight.

I like Arreola as a person, too, but following his career can feel quite frustrating at times.

there is nothing new on chris arreola here. i mean, i suppose the clips introduce him to the mainstream viewer...which is fine. but the point remains he has always been a motivated guy with the right kind of attitude and ambition. but motivation, ambition and a good attitude have nothing to propel them without discipline and focus. arreloa simply has not put in the hours of road work that would be neccessary to turn a winning attitude into a chance at a world title. he has yet to remember to keep one hand in a defensive posture while throwing in any fight. he has stuck to raw banging instead of developing a less pawing jab to give him more reach and set up the right hand--which he has yet to put in the gym work to straighten out and throw without ending up with his elbow locked, prohibiting a full extension.

i like the guy, as a guy, i'm sure he'd be fun to watch fights and drink beers with, but that's not what we're talking about. just because a guy is a solid person doesn't mean it is inappropriate to criticize his technique or conditioning. and, in this case, both deserve ample criticism.

On the contrary, this thread is all about his persona and how likable he is. There is no doubt in my mind that both Klitschko brothers would beat Arrerola, and most likely by early knockout, but for a guy with the right attitude, who is exciting and is currently undefeated whilst expressing intentions to fight the best fighters in the world, he should not be receiving the criticism he does. Saying he needs to improve areas of his game is one thing, and obvious, but he gets flack from posters for thinking he can beat the Klitschko's. To quote one of Eastside's finest posters, "non-sensical".

i agree with you on that. it is nonsense to crash from one extreme to another, never recognizing any reasonable middle ground. sadly, that is the name of the game on these boards all too often. but, you have to concede, there are also a lot of people who do the opposite, who use arreola's likability and workman-like ways to anoint him as a future champion based only on those personal, situational aspects of his character.

In all honesty, I barely recall any Chris Arreola supporters voicing their opinion in the General Forum as of late. I am sure they exist, but Arreola either gets **** on for thinking he can beat the Klitschko's, which is horrendously silly, or for being out of shape.

A professional athlete should study his craft 7 days a week, and should not be coming into the ring overweight. I agree with that. But rather than dismiss any possible contenders for the Klitschko's, should we not welcome resistance? Resistance equals conflict, which equals drama - something the Heavyweight division has been lacking since the last great Heavyweight, Lennox Lewis, was active.

I say if Value can hold a Heavyweight belt, and an ancient Holyfield is getting robbed still in title fights, then Chris Arreola can hold championship gold in some form or another. It's just great we have a Mexican Heavyweight.

fair enough. the heavyweight prospects do get a good firebombing from fans who have written off the whole country's scene at heavy because of the boredom and inactivity during some down years. and i agree with you that it's terrific--and not in a novelty sense--to have a mexican heavy who is even in the mix, to have a bit of aztec warrior banging around the heavyweight ranks.

He has potential and can hit hard, but the fact remains he is out of shape and displays little boxing skill.

Of course he was hurt. Otherwise he wouldn't have taken a knee.

Still a shitload better than Haye's chin though.
