Just one thing, Winky's ring generalship hasn't been what it once was in his last several fights. You have to admit this.
Winky is bigger, smarter and more powerful than Quintana and has better defense. Quintana was able to beat Williams by consistently countering him. If Winky's on his game and has any quickness left, he should be able to exploit the same holes in Williams' defense better than Quintana did. That said, I don't think he has the same handspeed he used to and he seems to have some trouble pulling the trigger now, so I do think Williams will end up taking it, but it won't be a blowout. I have little doubt that the Winky of 5 years ago would beat Williams pretty easily.
get the f*ck outta here! you talking about the same williams that lost to quintana. CARLOS QUINTANA!!!! are u kidding me??:huh Winky UD!!!
Then what? He'll find a guard Hopkins at 170 had trouble breaking through. What's your point walking through punches if you can't land your own? Winky at 80 to 100% schools Williams. Winky at 60 to 80% has a 50-50 chance. Anything below that should favor PW. Given Winky's age, long time outside of the ring and recent injury, we can PREDICT him fighting at about that critical 60%. But if the guy who never got over the hill, never took a beating, never faded and never looked really bad vs. the Hopkins who SCHOOLED and almost knocked out Pavlik at the same weight, might be in shape returning to 160. Pretty much everything depends on Winky's shape and how much does he have left will only be answered when the bell rings. PW fans, your turn.
This fight will be a good indicator of how much Winky has left in the tank. Cause a prime Winky would school Paul Williams. Both guys throw a lot of punches, but Winky's defense and cleaner, more accurate punches will win him this fight. Williams' punches will likely catch Winky's gloves all night long.
These are my exact thoughts, but I think Winky's experience against better fighters will win him the fight.
If Winky wins, that's not an upset IMO. In fact the only way Williams wins is if Winky has aged and is past it. He's the stronger of the two guys with a better defence and a better jab. The Winky who defeated Tito and Mosley twice, would beat any version of Williams we've seen so far. PW's opportunity knocks ONLY if Winky is shot !
I don't see PW walking through anyone's punches, but he'll definitely throw enough punches himself to win a comfortable UD
Ya -- what he said:yep And I'll just add that if the Winky who fought Jermain Taylor shows up, Paul gets another "L".
