Wlad Klitschko vs Prime Larry Holmes - Who Wins?

Your logic is backwards. If it took Holmes 13 rounds to get rid of Cooney it means that Cooney would have a really good fight against either Klitschko.

 

Exactly. It was Cooney who was taking the punishment and hanging in there.

 

I did think about that while watching the fight today. I also watched Cooney smash Ken Norton. That was as brutal of a KO as you will ever see. The Cooney in the Holmes fight did not have the same hook because of his shoulder issues.

 

Correct. Hence my point if Cooney could go 13 I would think either Klitschko could also. I am using Cooney simply because he has close to the height and reach of either Klit and that was a prime version of Holmes also.

Go watch all 15 rounds of Holmes vs Witherspoon and then tell me one fight that either Klitschko has been in or could be in that could be this competitive or exciting. I am telling you straight up. This was one of the closest, most competitive fights in history. The ending was so intense I stood up for the entire last three rounds.

 

My points are directed at the people who say Holmes would have destroyed Wlad or Vitali. I don't think anyone would get "destroyed" in this match up.

 

1 punch caused that cut above his eye. 1 punch caused the cut on his lip. It was not 20 punches that caused it. You might want to go and look at the punch stats for the fight. Lennox did not beat the **** out of anyone that night. You could flick Klitschko in the face and cut him. It is nothing new for European fighters to get cut in fights it has been happening for over 100 years. Don't come on here and act like Lennox was the first to do such in a Boxing match.

 

I am with you on this. Holmes would blast them out late or win a comfortable UD. The Klits are not on his level.

 

Lennox was stepping up the attack and Vitali was breaking down.

 

Guess what? We will never know what would have happened. Lennox won the fight on a cut stoppage not a KO. There was no rematch. Anything could have happened in that fight had it continued.

 

How can you have watched Holmes vs. Cooney and not come upon the conclusion that Holmes blasts these fools out.

a much more debatable subject would be Holmes vs. Ali, Holmes vs. Lewis, Wladimir vs. Dokes etc.

 

Guess what? This thread is about Larry Holmes and how he would murder Wlad.

 

Because Gerry Cooney sucked. He was an incomplete fighter. He had one arm and a fragile Chin. Nobody is getting blasted out. Holmes rarely blasted anyone out even in his weak era and he fought some total bums during his title reign.
