When Hamed was making a name for himself, my missus asked 'when is he going to fight Tyson?' She still gets mad now whenever I mention it...and laugh.

 

its easy to glorify our heroes in their prime but the bottom line is that tyson could have ended any fight with one punch (and there's not many fighters you can say that about), or ali could have had this fight over in the first 5.

but dont dismiss either argument here because no-one will ever know and both fighters were completely different but super effective at what they did.

 

i'd embarass my missus and run tapes of both of them at different weights.

The other day I was smoking and drinking with my black friend who happens to be a major MMA fan.. We started talking about the margarito situation and he goes " yo U know that Margarito has been loading up since 2001 right?? and he sounded so sure about it... Then he goes on to say " before the cotto fight man, Margarito only had 5 KOs on his record, he only knocked out 5 opponents.. He was never known as a puncher until he met Cotto, now why "???? it's because he loaded up even more for the cotto fight "..... At this point,I was at a loss of words so i just told him that he's not a boxing fan and that he didn't know ****... I just start to laugh and he goes " im telling u my n***a, Im telling you, this **** is true "

Then he tells me that COTTO is the best fighter of the last 10 years and labels him as a MINI TYSON.... He said that Cotto is the Mini tyson.. lol....

 

Watching Hatton Mayweather with friends (who had all had a good drink) after Hatton got put down and stopped. Two of my friends were screaming at the TV "let him fight on, what you stopping the fight for? They should let him keep fighting!!", I was gonna suggest that the guy had just been KTFO but I decided ... nah, nevermind!!

 

This was after we watched the fight. The funny thing about it he has no formal training and has only been a in a few street fights. He thinks just because he's 6'0 and 210 he could beat any boxer in the world 160 and under, he said they're too little to really hurt him.:-( He said all of this while being sober and dead serious.atsch

 

Mike Tyson was terrifed of the mere thought of fighting a 65 year old Foreman back in the late 80's early 90's. Ali fought and kicked the ass of a PRIME Foreman who would have manraped Tyson worse than Lennox or Buster did.

 

Not so funny cuz I saw Pac stop punching on Hoya second to the last round just cuz he felt sorry for him.

That's not funny, or dumb. It is perfectly understandable why a non boxing fan would say that, hell, Mayweather is barely even well known within the U.S.

 

I have a friend who fights me to the death over "Antonio Margarita"

 

A coworker told me right before the Cotto-Margarito fight:

"Hey isnt that italian guy Cotto fighting next weekend?"

 

I'll be honest and add a thought from myself to this thread when I was a non-boxing fan and when I was only like 13.

It was after the Tyson-Williams fight, and because Tyson was one of the only guys I'd heard of and was still fighting, I thought he was the best fighter in the world, and therefore in affect after Williams beat him, I thought Danny Williams was P4P #1.

So ashamed.
