Hey, I'd love to see Winky come off of a two year layoff to school a stylistic nightmare. Don't think it will happen, but should be a very interesting fight.
How is Paul Williams a stylistic nightmare? He is relatively light-hitting at the top level, open to get hit from the counter, throws relatively sloppy punches, is questionable at best against southpaw boxers and likes to fight short, negating his most obvious and significant advantage. How does this NOT play into Winky's hands?
Precisely. If Winky can take the best shots Taylor had to offer, I can't see him being overly bothered by what Williams brings to the table. Winky is going to be the stronger man inside the ring, and that will become apparent very early on.
You beat Winky by outworking him. Williams is a volume punching machine with ridiculous stamina. And he sure wasn't "questionable" in the Quintana rematch. Fight short? I guess you could say that, but fighting short with an 80 inch wingspan at 6'2 still makes the guy pretty damned long in my book. Landing that jab is going to be tricky for the Winkster going against these kinds of dimensions. All I'm saying.
Wrong. You beat Winky by roughing him up and taking him out of his rhythm exactly as Hopkins did. The Quintana rematch, while impressive, never really proved that Williams could outbox Quintana's limited style over a duration of rounds. And are we forgetting that Winky's work rate isn't too shabby, either? If Paul's jab gives Winky problems--if he can manage to keep Winky at the end of his punches--you are correct. However, Winky's defensive shell is perfect for someone like Williams who likes to throw straight punches. Winky will block those and counter, and I suspect Winky's punches are gonna hurt Paul a lot more than his will hurt Winky. Back to your original claim, I strongly disagree. Outworking Winky isn't enough. You need to disrupt him and throw him off his game. No easy feat. Elite talents like Mosley were unable to do so, and Mosley is a lot more versatile than Williams.
Rummy is quite sure of a Winky Wirght victory, so much so that he says he will explain in great detail on my radio show Monday about how this man can come back after being inactive for 18 months and go right into a fight with a guy who is in most peoples top 10 P4P and and fighter that has shown he is even better at higher weights and has shown good power 154+ and a good activity rate, but still beat him....I think Wright has bit off more then he can chew and will end up losing a a slightly wide decision scores 117-111 117-111 116-112
