Just watching Friday Night Fights and B.J. Flores who is in studio and promoted by Roy said he's heard Adamek and Kessler mentioned for Roy.
That would be the best possible hope for those concerned with Calzaghe's legacy. If Kessler has to dump a first fight to someone else out there better it be Jones, if that somehow happened. I seriously ****ing doubt it though... Joe would love it.
I never said he would win, but it's possible. What I saw in the Sheika fight was a different fighter than the one that fought Tito, Hanshaw, Ajamu and Calzaghe. When Roy had Sheika, he went in for the kill. The Stoppage was a bit early but I believe Sheika would have been stopped sooner or later anyway. Anyway, Jones appeared to have his confidence back and spent less time on the ropes. If he stays off the ropes and can use his speed like he did in the Sheika fight, combined with increased confidence, then he can win.
Agreed. Kessler isn't exactly invulnerable and Jones has a decent amount of handspeed and power still left in him. If a single counter right hand from Sartison can turn Kessler's body into an accordion; Roy Jones certainly has a better than good chance of making something count. Kessler is also a fencer-boxer who will give Roy plenty of opportunities to breathe and take turns with him, and Mikkel's "defense" and lack of left hand won't help em' either... Still, I doubt Roy Jones has the nerve at this point. In many senses.
It makes me mad in a way to see Jones go for the kill like he did against Sheika. Where was that confidence and balls against Calzaghe, Tito, Hanshaw, Ajamu? Don't get me wrong I am happy to see Jones score a TKO and renew some of his confidence but he should have had the balls to fight Calzaghe instead of sit on the ropes and let Joe humilate him. I agree in the most part with your post. It would be a lot more competitive than most think.
It actually would be competitive most likely ending with Kessler stopping him late. Kessler is not aggressive enough and he would fight the kind of fight that suites Roy. He would box with him and load up on his right hand. He dont have a left hook. You just have to go with Kessler by KO b/c it just makes sense.
Kessler isn't the adapter that Calzaghe is, hence why Calzaghe beat Kessler to begin with... Not to mention picking himself up off the canvas in back to back fights in the first round to win. Hurm. I'd favor Kessler considering Jones has lost much of what once made him great. But, Kessler is robotic and fairly predictable, and Jones is still dangerous in some ways and will be until the day he retires. About a 70/30 affair in my opinion.
