I've seen Bryd V Tua and I'd hardly call it amazing :roll: Byrd V Ike was a better indication of Byrds true level as a heavyweight, as was the first fight with WALDO.

There goes that Klit-ite line about Lewis not wanting to fight Byrd again, pathetic.

I think I'm staying back on a more controlled basis. I can always check boxrec to see when I joined because I signed up the day of Hopkins-Taylor 1. I was in shock when I came back last week and saw my post count!

It seems not much has changed, though, when it comes to Vitlay and Wald arguments (although I'm not seeing 2smart4u chiming in with HIS points:huh:twisted::tongdeal).

 

Yeah, but perhaps a bigger puncher would have had Lewis outta there, with his chin being made of glass un all....

he wasn't hugging, he held him loosely for about two seconds, and he had steady feet all the time. without the uppercut the round was pretty even.
but you are right, a fighter with more one punch power would have probably knocked lennox out in that fight. i've said it before: wladimir with vitali's chin would be pretty much unbeatable.

Wlads skills and power and Vitali's toughness, durability and stamina. It would be a monster! As it stands now, I still think Vitali is unbeatable at the moment.

 

I have watched the tape, several times, and I agree this sounds just a LITTLE biased to claim Lewis was staggering around the ring like a drunken sailor while Klitschko was just barely holding onto him after that uppercut. If Lewis hadn't been right in front if him for Vitali to grab onto, Klitschko looked liked he would've fallen face first to the canvas in my opinion.

Was Lewis staggering around in the second round? YES, no doubt about it, and he didn't look that great in the third either, even though he started to make his momentary comeback and cut the eye in that round - he was still on shaky legs.

I may be one of the few that feels this way, but to me it looked like Lewis got STRONGER and more confident towards the last couple of rounds (probably due to the cut), while all the Lewis haters and Klitites will tell you that Lewis was out on his feet from round 2 to the end and lucky to survive the fight...my ass. Would it have been a different fight from round 3 on without the cut on Vitali's eye? Definitely, but we can only sit here and play the WHAT IF game for so long before we put this fight behind us and just agree that it was one of the best heavyweight fights in recent memory for six brutal rounds, regardless of who won or lost.

I think Vitali was a great fighter in his prime, and I'm not a Klitschko hater at all. I'm just tired of people defending Vitali like he's God. It looks like the WBC is next in line to do so...:-(

 

i wonder why neither lampley, merchant or foreman were noticing that lewis got stronger while vitali fatigued? they kept saying that lewis was dead tired, vitali too but to a lesser extent.
and as for vitali falling on the floor face first: he wasn't even wobbled, did you see him doing a chicken dance? he held on for two seconds, which was exact the right thing to do.
and to make it clear, i'm not a lennox hater by any means!

 

I don't put too much stock into what Lampley, Merchant or Foreman say a lot of the time...I remember watching a compilation video recently about their comments during fights. They would say something like "Fighter A is destroying fighter B and fighter B has no chance to win this fi...oh, my! Where did that hook come from!" It's full of contradictions like that, and worth watching if you're up for a good laugh. :yep

My point is that you never even got a chance to SEE if Vitali was wobbled because he was so close to Lewis when the uppercut was thrown. His instinct (correctly, as you pointed out) was to immediately hold. He was hit with the uppercut and within less than a second he was already leaning on Lewis. If he had been farther away from Lewis when he got hit, I think you would have seen him stagger around a little...Lewis was at distance when he got hit by Vitali with that straight right in round 2.

I just hate seeing this fight be pointed out by Lewis haters (I know you said you're NOT one Ronnie, so this isn't directed toward you) as the fight where somehow Lewis "got away". It was ANYBODY'S FIGHT. I'm so sick of hearing the empty "Klitscho was ahead on all the score cards" excuse - so was Jermain Taylor when he was dropped like a bad habit by Kelly Pavlik in round 7. Score cards don't mean anything until the bell rings at the end of the 12th round. Lewis and Klitschko were both heavy-handed, both tired, both rocked at different points in the fight and both capable of ending the fight at any moment. It wasn't a guaranteed win for Klitschko if the fight continued! :twisted:

 

Taking that uppercut and still standing should have you doubters appreciate how great a chin Vitali has...Lewis never wanted to face this monster again because he knew he couldn't knock him out.
Hence no rematch.
