Ali did not treat all his opponents the way he treated Joe ... the Frazier bouts had far more signifigance , were fought on a worldwide stage and Ali slammed Joe way beyond hyping a fight. He made Joe a scapegoat for what he had experienced and it was poor character and low class ... it's funny how since the 1996 Olympics there has been a sanitation of the Ali legacy that leaves out much of the details ... Tom Hauser wrote a book about it and it is dead on ... Ali has been recast as some sort of icon without warts and it is far from the case. He evolved over time, he did grow up and soften his positionjs but it does not erase what he did ... Ali slammed Joe so badly that Joe never recovered ... to say Duran called Leonard this or Tyson said that does not take away from the facfs ...

Joe feels sorry for Ali now...because of Ali's state of health, Joe is glad he is Joe

Before one buys into Joe bearing a bitter grudge ever since the Uncle Tom and gorilla remarks, one should watch "Here's your life" in 1977 or 1978 featuring Ali. Joe is one of the surprise guests and expresses nothing but respect and affection, which seems to be very mutual.

So either he's one hell of an actor or else the bitternes came later, perhaps because other things that happened in Frazier's life. Events that caused a bitterness that perhaps became channeled towards Ali, since Joe felt ever more cast in his shadow. Because when one watches that show all that one sees is two guys that are aware that they made each other great and who have earned each other's respect.

After Jermain Taylor's brother had committed suicide Hopkins said "I'm gonna make you wish you killed yourself like your brother did."

That was truly disgusting. Hopkins just dropped in my regard. Never heard anything quite as bad as that.

Hopkins without question has been a total dirtbag. There is no basement to his conduct. A great fighter but one without any morals ... remember him faking injury from "low" blows v.s. Calzeghe to buy time in a fight where he was running out of gas ... so obvious a fake but he did not care ... also his entire lawsuit with DiBella was a disgrace ...

Hopkins: massive wanker. If that Taylor comment is true and anyone still calls himself a fan then they want knocking out.

Yeah, that's strange. Frazier certainly didn't seem to be acting. What happened between then and when Frazier started to consistently express bitterness toward Ali?

You're the moron. If someone used a few unkind and cruel words such as ignorant and uncle tom to describe you then you would be singing a different tune. It's one thing to be called ugly or gorilla, that's kids stuff. To be called "ignorant" and "uncle tom", however is an unneccessary attack on one's character and pride.

Good points, but even more. ali calling Frazier these things was more than playground smack as some are making it...the media frenzy surrounding this had part of a nation calling him these names in print and television. Frazier would be seen as an outsider in his own city...all of this after what? campaigning to bring Ali back and reinstate him...helping him out? Yeah Ali went to far. It's one thing to hype a fight and another thing to totally defame a person...especially one who has tried to help you out..Totally Classless!!!

I don't know exactly. But the very talked about documentary about Ali's and Frazier's relationship seemed to imply that Frazier had fallen on hard times. The documentary didn't highlight that as a reason for Joe's bitterness in any way, but it seemed that things hadn't turned out so well for him.
