Hi just read 4 kings which is about the fights between Duran, Hagler, Hearns and Leanard, which it covers in great detail. However i was wondering what was Duran's resume like minus Hagler, Hearns and Leanard. I recognise some great names such as Carlos Palomino and Wilfredo Benetiz, but what are the others like? Does his resume compete with other legends or is it one of the best

That is probably one of the best fights I've ever seen!!. Duran the smaller man forced to go inside of Barkley and use what can only be described as an outstanding defense to stay inside and bang away. He caught his fair share too so his chin, his defense and of course his offensive skills were are tested to the max. What a great display of boxing/fighting.

    Esteban DeJesus
    Ray Lampkin
    Ken Buchanon
    Hiroshi Kobayashi
    Iran Barkley

    to name a few....

That being said the Leonard win catipulted him into the stratosphere. Most likely the greatest win in history. Not to mention, the extroadinary skill he showed in between the ropes.

Without those names he probably still is in the top 20. (he lost to all except the 1st leonard bout)

Buchanon (Champion), DeJesus x2 (#1 rated both times), Lampkin (#1 rated), Edwin Viruet (#3 rated). Excellent wins over fellow future HOFers Palomino and Cuevas. Along with Moore and Barkley which were impressive wins more because of the circumstances than the fighters they were.

Leonard is really what does it. Which is why I find it all too puzzling how many look to demean and detract from him as a fighter.

Marcel, Buchanan, De Jesus x 2, Barkley, Moore, Palomino, Cuevas, Villa, Fernandez, Kobayashi, Ishimatsu, Mamby, Viruet x 2, Lampkin, Thompson, Castro, etc.

Fantastic resume without Leonard and the rest of the Fab Four. All-time legend even without the Leonard win.

Well, yeah, it takes nothing off his case as the greatest lightweight to ever do it. That alone warrants him a high rating. But P4P (plus what he'd later accomplish), it's the masterpiece that vaults him into a Top 10 placing.

He'd almost certainly make a top 30 all time even if he had retired before ever facing SRL, maybe even top 20 depending on how highly one values H2H ability. His career up to that point was already on par with someone like Hagler's, for instance, and he looked as good as anyone on film in his prime.
