He wanted no part of Lewis or Bowe ... he was very smart about his opponent selection ... I agree that the young Tyson would have crushed him. I'm just saying that was the one fight where George appeared ready to fight a huge banger ... fortunately it never happened because the image of the older Foreman flattened would have been tragic ...

I think McCall had the best chin.

I think you have a point. Sure, Ali had a great chin, but he was also very good at rolling with punches so they didn't quite have impact they seemed to have. Like Holmes he also had great recuperation powers.

It depends on how you define chin, really. Tyson was able to take monster punches, but he wasn't very good at recuperating when seriously hurt. So how to rate him? Ali went down for punches Tyson might very well have stood up for, but unlike Tyson he could always come back enough to at least last the distance.

Forget about pound for pound power, combination punching etc. Name me a fighter outside my list that suffered the injuries Jeffries suffered against Fitzsimmons without even going down. Sharkey fights were another one with some massive damage, yet Jeffries did not even go down. He fought huge punches like Jackson and others but it is hard to guage these, because he may not have been actually hit often. No matter how you look at it, Jeffries had a first class chin. You dont look at the number of fights or the size of the opponent or even necessarilly the power of the opponent to judge a chin. YOu look at the damage it suffers and how the fighter can perform (relative to their own ability) after that damage is suffered.

Mike Tyson fought a lot of fights, but how many fights did he actually suffer any damage in? Maybe Douglas, Holyfield and Lewis and that is about it. You can doubt Jeffries being in the top 5 chins of all time, but if you dont think he has a very good chin, because he fought a middleweight, you are either kidding yourself or youdont understand what a good chin means.

Jeffries is right up there with Dempsey as question marks for me ...takings bombs from Fitz is not like Chuvalo taking shots from Foreman ... Corbett was not a huge puncher and neither was Jackson ... Sharkey was to a degree ... Jeff definately seemed to have a hell of a jaw based on what we can tell but to call him all time is a guess ...

Foreman would NOT be flattened by Tyson. George would get hit
but would shake it off and Tyson would get frustrated and be taken out by George.

Perhaps what the older George Foreman proved is that power isnt worth two buckets of warm spit unless it is paired with superior punching technique.

An ounce of technique is worth a pound of power.

The recent genaration of power punchers with mediocre technique are vastly over rated as chin checkers.

How exactly could Foremans chin have improved by his comeback?

I can only see ways that it could have got worse.

Rolling with the punches, added weight, completely different training routines that built up his toughness, far more mental strength and conviction, bully mentality dissapearing.

Definately a great chin, the way Holyfield was hitting him was impressive and he never hurt George.
